Description
Sensibly modified with a very sound body shell. This is the more sort after two door version. The bodywork has some imperfections but nothing serious. The front seats were reupholstered some years ago and are very comfy. The rear seat back needs a minor repair. Its got a heater that works (optional extra back in the day). There are front seat belts fitted.
MG Midget back axle and front wishbones with servo assisted brakes (hydraulic all round with front discs). Recent brake pipes with stainless flexible hose on the front.
Mildy tuned 948cc engine with HS6(!) SU, 3 into 1 big bore exhaust and alternator / negative earth. Very lively off the mark for such a small engine. This does need further tuning though as the car has been unused for 10 years prior to my ownership. Starts on the button as they say, although in an A35 it is of course a pull of the knob on the dash.
MG Midget rib case gearbox
It has recently had a fuel tank flush with new filter, fuel pump refurbished, plugs, points and condenser, plus a handful of other odds and ends to help get it through an MOT which I was proposing to do but an imminent house move has left me with no time to do this just now. To get it through an MOT I think it would need headlamps and handbrake adjustment and thats about all. Previous MOTs have highlighted the NS A post as having some corrosion and also the sill around the jacking point but it was not considered bad enough to fail. It hasn't worsened to date and the car is still many times structurally better than a lot of I have seen.
The car has lots of potential should you want to go the performance route with effectively some of the hard work already done. Lower the suspension (easy), drop in a bigger engine (the exhaust, carb and gearbox are all there), remove the rear anti roll bar, add a Midget front anti roll bar and you are away. Add in some sensible wide wheels and negative camber trunions etc.
I have available a louvered steel lightweight bonnet, lightweight steel boot and Weller wheels. If it is of interest also available is a rebuilt 1150 engine with Hillman Imp pistons, roller rockers etc.
The car was in a minor bump and declared uneconomical to repair many years ago. At this point in it's life it was probably worth very little. The owner sensibly bought it back, repaired it and continued to use and enjoy it.
There is a fantastic owners club with what has to be the best welcome pack and quarterly magazine I have ever seen.
Come and have a look. I live near Leominster in Herefordshire. There is a lot of MOT history but little else. I bought the car from a friend who owned it for the last 10 or 15 years. He used to use it as daily transport at one time to get to his engineering business.
