Description

i am a huge fan of tvr's, especially wedges and i have owned quite a few over the years in different guises, but nothing compares to this! this is 1 of 7 tvr 420se's ever built, a run out over a very short time before tvr introduced the seac's. they came new with a 4. 2 litre tuned rover v8 and seac racing chassis. the main different between the 420 / 450 and the seac was the striking bodywork and spoiler, the seac's had more agressive cams which produced more power. however, this particular 420se had a brand new 4. 4 450 engine fitted by tvr power / nck racing in 1989 to the tune of £6k which included cosworth pistons and high lift cams! if that wasn't enough, in 1993 the heads were blueprinted which resulted in not only more power, but more usable power high up in the rev range. on my first drive out in the tvr i simply couldn't believe how much this car wanted to rev, and could keep going right up there without running out of steam. i was used to 350's / 390's and 400's which would run out of guts circa 5k, but this thing was a whole new ball game!

to go with the tvr is a huge history file containing lots of history, letters from tvr to confirm its heritage, parts replacement invoices, servicing bills and much more. a new hood was fitted circa 2013 which is in pristine condition, uprated brake pistons and calipers, braided brake lines and spax adjustable shocks. i have the full v5 showing 11 former keepers, a new mot with no advisories and a laminated booklet showing the body restoration which is immaculate.

to drive? she is an absolute riot! like driving a b52 bomber on the road with the soundtrack to match, infact the tvr was entered into a 'sound off' competition at a large car show where it came second. im not sure which vehicle came first, but this is certainly the loudest, most aggresive tvr ive had the pleasure of owning, it makes me smile everytime i fire her up. the clutch and gearbox combination is a joy, no crunches in any of the gears and the clutch bites exactly where you want it to. the power steering is sharp, responsive with a good weight to it, very positive in the corners. excellent road manners for a classic tvr, set up very well without any untoward noises when going over the bumps. needless to say, she is a very fast machine! even by todays standard this car is a weapon, she holds torque and power all the way up through the rev range, such an exhilerating car to drive that'll make your hairs stand on end. i am an ehtusiast of all classic motors, but my head has always leaned towards 90's japanese icons but the love i have for this car in such a short space of time is unmatched.

the bodywork is superb for her years, very straight and honest with no nasty dents or unsightly scratches to mention, the bright red paintwork is one shade of red all the way round with a super bright gloss, no defects to mention there. of course, shes not brand new, nor do we hope you expect as such, but i would suggest its one of the best you're likely to find! i have 80+ photos and video walk around i can send you to view in more detail. the underside is in very good order, no advisories on the mot to mention any underside corrosion and the chassis / outriggers are in very good order with no work needed. the tvr is going for a service on the 13th of july, once the tvr is up on the ramp i will take more photos to show you how good she is.

so there we are! quite possibly my favorite car ive ever owned, and ive had a few nice bits of kit in my 14+ years in the motor trade! the tvr 420se wedge, 1 of just 7 ever made, fitted with the 4. 4 450 v8 engine from nck racing, a true dyno reading of 287bhp, lots of service history, enthusiast owned, bodywork restoration, pristine condition soft top, excellent grey leather, very original in condition and an incredibly fast machine! you will be hard pressed to find another wedge like this anytime soon that wants for absolutely nothing, simply get in, turn the key, wake up the neigbourhood and enjoy yourself. in my opinion, bar the seac's, this is the ultimate wedge, with an seac setting you back £30k+ these days i feel this car represents fair value for money. well worth travelling to view, we certainly don't think you will be disappointed.
