Here's my 1958 Series 2 Land rover 109 2 1/ 4 petrol.
Series 2 produced between April and September 1958 which this one was. Following the successful 10 year production run on the S1 since 1948. Although it was a new product launch in the evolution between two models. As a result there are many features unique to early s2 where s1 parts were used up and transitioned directly onto the new model. The 109 s2's are particularly rare in original condition as less where made then the 88 version. Few of the key features are Birmingham badges, Single bolt front apron, One wipe window shield , Deluxe bonnet no drain holes, Positive earth , Upside down regulator, Star drive flanges, Bolt on vent flaps, Turn screw vent openers, Steering wheel, straight hand brake lever, Lucas headlights and floor dipswitch, Windscreen butterfly wing nuts, 3 bolt tail gate hinge, series 1 dash pane;, 4 bolt bonnet hinge, Series 1 horn, Deep sills, one piece floor. This land rover still has all those features.
This 109 has gone through a mild resto. Keeping it all originality but improving and rebuild the running gear, The chassis is the original still stamped on the dumb iron. It has had a rear cross member fitted and cleaned and whole chassis Dinitrolled. The brakes have been full rebuilt new drums shoes wheel cylinder lines etc. The suspension has been upgraded to parabolic leaf springs. The axles are the correct early type and have been rebuilt. The engine is a early 2. 25 petrol. Original this land rover was diesel but it was converted pretty early on to petrol maybe factory conversion. The engine just had a new head gasket fitted and checked runs well. The gearbox is non synchro and selects all gears good, The transfer box goes between 2wd 4wd hi and 4wd lo smoothly.
Most of the body panels are original to the car and wearing its original paint. It also hasn't even had indicator fitted. The door tops and tub bed floor has been replaced as where past repairing. The interior is left original the seat covers have been re covered but suit the look of the land rover. Comes on the originals wheels with 750 x 16 tyres.
I have enjoyed driving this around but its time for a change. This is a very rare series 2 in original condition which deserves to be in a collection or enjoyed.
