Description
1963 Series 2A Land Rover with New Galvanised Chassis & Recent Restoration Work.
About the restoration:
The previous owner carried out the bulk of the restoration on this vehicle, covering all major mechanical and structural areas, including:
Engine refresh
Later gearbox (making this easier to drive and able to keep up in modern traffic.)
New Galvanised Chassis and Bulkhead
Floor and inner wing panels
4x4 system rebuild.
Springs and steering box
The underside was then fully painted, and detailed (images to follow in the coming days). There is an invoice that covers the major components above with spend exceeding £11k.
My ownership of the vehicle, has been to take the car to the next level both cosmetically and in its ‘coolness’ this included:
Full engine service and detail. Replacing, polishing and replacing all the little details.
New Wheels & Tyres - £1, 460
New Exmoor canvas and Frame - £980
Interior repaint, new seats, and hinges - £835
This vehicle also features a fully custom dashboard and rear boot floor. So this uber cool 2A is totally unique, ultra-cool and totally usable. I had a custom teak dashboard and rear floor built with a tweed top, USB and USBC charger and marshal speaker. This build alone was significant.
How it drives
This Land Rover drives exactly as you would expect. It starts on the button and runs crisply thanks to that engine rebuild. The brakes, searing and gears all work correctly and has the perfect balance of usable reliability with 1960’s charm. The steering is as tight as you can expect without the excessive wandering that can be present on some Series 2’s.
Of course, running costs are almost nil as he’s Tax, ULEZ and Mot Exempt.
Use and enjoy it and benefit from the financial appreciation that these investments provide.
