Description
I have reached the conclusion that I have too many cars and they can only be enjoyed one at a time. So it is time to reduce the numbers to a more practical level, and on the basis of last in first out, I am selling my lovely Elan Sprint drop head. Finished in the best colour combination of Lagoon Blue over Cirrus White, it is in superb all-round condition and even retains its original chassis which is in excellent condition. Only non original items are a solid drive shaft conversion (which is a desirable change), plus electronic ignition for reliability.
I bought the car 15 months ago from a guy who had only owned it for 2 years but was selling it because of lack of use and to concentrate on his historic motor racing! There are quite a lot of invoices from over its life and in the file there are 27 MOT certificates with the earliest dated 1976 showing a milage of 21, 935 miles. the most recent is August 2017 when the mileage was 76, 164 and it is currently showing 77, 971. There is a very useful note in the file from the second owner who had the car from 1996 to 2017. Here is a transcript........ "I bought this Elan in 1996 from the original owner who lived in Sandhurst. When I bought the car it had been off the road for 10 years according to the owner due to an engine problem..... At that time it was obviously not road worthy and I trailered it home. I then stripped the engine and rebuilt it using QED standard size pistons and also renewed the bearings, again standard size and any other components as required. The suspension was renewed with new bushes and it soon became apparent that I needed to renew all the rubber parts, (hoses etc.) as these had deteriorated during storage. The shock absorbers are adjustable all round. Shortly after I got the car back on the road, the body was stripped to the gel coat and resprayed". There are various invoices in the file that support this narrative such as the components for the engine build. The interior is completely original and very, very good. There is the original hood cover and tonneau but the actual hood was replaced when it went back on the road and I suspect it has never been used - it does erect properly and still looks new.
The car is at home in West Chiltington and can be viewed/ tested at any convenient time.
I bought the car because it was so good, but I really do have too many classic cars - 6 Lotus at present (plus 4 Jaguars) including 2 Elans, one of which needs to go and I am keeping my early pre-airflow S3 Coupe.
You?ll struggle to find a better Elan Sprint DHC on the market today.
