Description

My wife and I bought this lovely Hillman Imp 'Super' in June last year. We chose an Imp because we though it would be more interesting and more fun than yet another classic mini.
Which it is.
We had planed to use it as a fun way of getting into London (it's registered as a historic vehicle and is therefore exempt from the ULEZ charge and MOT) and for visiting summer car shows.
The reality of course is that we have hardly used it at all. We drove it into London only a handfull of times and the summer car shows, to my amazement, only occur in the summer.
We have therefore decided to pass it on to someone who will give it the appreciation it deserves.
And the kids want to put their bikes in the garrage.

We bought this particular car because it is a very origional and unmolested example and because it came with such a comprehensive service history.
Sometime in the early 1980's the car was bought by a Mr. J L King and clearly Mr. King was extrememly festidious about keeping records.
I have every mot certificate from 1982 up to 2019, countless pages of service and repair invoices, The origional owners manual & service book and even the 'Lubrication Chart' for you to hang on your garrage wall. I also have around fifty issues of Impressions, the Imp Owners Club magazine, going back to 1986 as well as a folder full of period promotional literature including a 1965 issue of Autocar, featuring a first review of the new Hillman Imp.

The car was registered new on the very first day of the 1970's. One day earlier and it would be a 1969 car.

The bodywork is mostly in excelent condition and presents extremely well. There are of course small scratches and blemishes as well as some very small areas where corrosion is causing bubbles in the paint. there is one area on the front lip of the bonnet where some corrosion has come through the paint. I had allways intended to have this repared but just never got to it. I have done my best to show the worst blemishes in my photos.

The car has a sliding sunroof and vinyl top, Prompting my friends to christen it 'The Gimp'. The vinyl is in superb condition (I believe it was re-covered in the 90's, there is an invioce for the work in the service records).

The interior is very good as well. The seats are in superb condition, as is the head-lining. The carpet could do with tidying up or replacing. It appears to have been cut from a single flat sheet rather than being the correct, fitted carpet. However the floor mats are the correct fitted ones and they are in excelent condition.

The car drives very well, although this is the only Imp I have driven so I have nothing to compare it to. Insured buyers are welcome to test drive it and form there own opinions. Changing down into 1st requires some forward planning but I've been told this is a standard Imp characteristic. The engine starts easily, runs well and ticks over almost silently. I recently had the Ignition timing set up profesionaly and the difference is very noticable.

The wheels, including the spare, are in superb condition as are the chrome trims and hub caps. It had five new tyres when I bought it which have done less than 1, 000 miles and the spare has never seen the road.

She is in lovely condition but serious buyers will know that this is all relative. Cars of this age were not built to the standards we expect today and she is fifty three years old.
She has only covered 52, 000 miles but she does have her 'Imp'erfections.

The car is tax and MOT exempt and so does not have an mot certificate. the last MOT was in 2019 which it passed with no advisorie issues.

I m asking £8, 500 which is based on other cars currently on the market. I am in no rush to sell but I am open to sensible offers from people who have been out to veiw the car in person.
