Selling as interests are moving towards classic BMW bikes and the truck just doesn't get as much use as it deserves.
Engine:
- 4. 0-litre Rover V8 block from a RR P38, 4. 6 V8 crankshaft with the longer stroke, i. e. technically a 4. 6-litre now. The original engine never came with the vehicle, the original 3. 5 V8 I bought it with had been there already in 1998 as per the history file.
- Rover SD1 heads and camshaft.
- 3. 9-litre front cover to enable use with distributor.
- Boxer inlet manifold with 4 rebuilt SU HIF 6 carbs.
- Cherry Bomb silencer fitted.
- Mallory distributor.
- External oil filter.
- Facet fuel pump.
- Stock Series III radiator with expansion bottle, aftermarket electric fan (manual flip switch below dashboard).
Gearbox and propshafts:
- A rebuilt 5-speed LT77 from a Ninety, paired with standard Series Land-Rover transfer box via an Ashcroft conversion kit.
- Gearbox mounts moved towards the back to allow for the differences in length.
- RRC propshafts, rear one shortened.
- Spare rear propshafts come with the truck, surface rust but OK for use.
Axles and suspension:
- Standard Series One Rover items, with RRC differentials. The rear one is slightly noisy, another good one comes with the car.
- Free wheeling hubs (working).
- Rocky Mountain parabollic springs.
- Rear left wheel bearing leaks especially if the vehicle stands tilted towards the wheel, this should be remedied before sale.
Wheels and tyres:
- Long-wheelbase steel rims - stripped and painted in Deep Bronze Green.
- Hankook DynaPro MT 225/ 75 R16 - tread depth still very good, tyres not cracked or damaged.
Chassis and bulkhead were sandblasted, repaired professionally, aluminium-treated (for corrosion resistance) and painted - rust-proofed also inside. Door and window frames and vent levers repaired and galvanized.
About 15, 000 miles covered during 11 years of my ownership, mainly to historic vehicle rallies and Land-Rover events. Previous history hazy, V888 form data available in the vehicle’s file, vehicle moved around Wales before being sold to Scotland - it changed hands several times at both locations.
Made in December 1953, 1954 model - 768th home market Series One 86in. 80in lights-through front grille mounted, the original one comes with the truck. New Lucas European headlamps fitted. Non-original steering wheel, three-point safety belt for the passenger. Original elephant hide seats torn and damaged, but covered in still decent khaki canvas covers. 12V socket under the dashboard. The instruments mostly do not work, there’s a plan to make at least the fuel gauge work, but I’ve learnt to live with this and didn’t tackle the problem. The vehicle comes with a truck cab.
Comes with a BMIHT build certificate and a history file including photos from the rebuild process (and many others if needed). Nothing for the rivet counter, this is a modified truck that will only appeal to similarly minded wackos. RHD, previously UK-registered (PSK 339), V888 form results available (although the copies aren’t the best).
