Relisting Time Waster
I purchased last Oct 22 from Car and Classics, my thought was to work with my young son and specialist's making improvements, which I started to do. Unfortunately my health has taken a downturn and having a car as a project isn't contusive to my current health.
I have had a Porsche independent specialist undertake works on the car Paul Lacey who seems to be highly praised (I will list works below) across the specialist 928 sites.
All the important things are done. Cambelt and other belts, Water Pump, MAF, Replacement manifold, Torque Tube and parts, Completely removed the fuel injection system, had professionally cleaned and refitted, Replaced HT, Replaced Various Fuel lines/ pipes, Serviced, Brake Pad Wiring, Boots, and Rubbers, Splash panels. (see attached
She has travelled 114. 5k miles, and the MOT's and Service Receipts seem to support this.
There are some MOT's missing from when the car was purchased, but I guess that can be normal when so old, and having changed hands a bit, I think I have approx 25+ years worth that are consistent.
She seems to have spent a bit of time sat around and not being used over the years.
She has 11 months MOT, and apart from having the omissions tweaked flew through the MOT
Re-sprayed possibly about 10 years ago
Great tyres, good wheels
She runs really well, she is old and other Porsche 928 drivers will understand the difference between driving a 36 year old car and a modern car
MOT's from 1994
Some service stamps, but loads of receipts. I have just spent £2. 8k on her renewing the Brake hoses, Boot and Steering Rubbers, Re- Calibrating the MAF, Re-upholstering the old steering wheel, New Locking Nuts, Brake Pad wiring, Flexible Brake Line Parts (but not yet fitted) Rear Splash Shield, Upper Fuel line replaced, Rear Brake Disc cover replaced, Fuel Filler Boot Replaced, Front Plastic Splash Panel replaced, New Horn, Power Steering Leak fixed, New Dipstick, Replacement knock sensors Replacement hoses below manifold, Replacement Sun Roof Seals (might still need adjustment tho
Engine – the entire fuel injection and ignition systems on the engine have been removed, cleaned, checked, and refitted. one bad HT cap (cylinder 7) which I replaced. Oil now in the engine is Valvoline V1 Racing 20W50. This is available from Opie oils.
Brake hoses – I have not been able to replace the rubber hoses with the Goodrich stainless ones as I don’t have access to a four post lift. Any garage can fit these, does not need a Porsche specialist. However, I have treated all the ferules on existing hoses with KuRust to stop any corrosion.
Throttle body rebuild
Full Engine Service
Replacement Manifold one side, car must have had a small fire years ago, but not replaced, I have had replaced with a reconditioned one
Replacement external brighter bulbs all round. I have some Videos of Paul Lacey undertaking the work or his findings.
Needs doing to my knowledge or if you wanted to (not exhaustive):
Cracks on dash, think someone has tried to repair in the past, but I did see someone who cut the cracks out and put small anthracite trim in place looked quite good, and better than taking the dash out
Various wiring to internal door/ ceiling lights was for 2024 Electric mirrors were working but seem to have stopped was for 2024 Central locking Paul disarmed as it was intermittently working and I didn't want to walk away think the was locked and it had unlocked on the passenger side. (think a wiring thing) was for 2024
Door cards are okay but having put different speakers in the car (still not amazing but sound good) and cleared the annoying broken glass out of a door internal skin that has been in there 15 years according to docs I saw, I was going to replace and reapply the upholstery. I have put new door panel clips for this year, but the finish isn't perfect was for 2024
Temp Gauge sensor replacement cover (in cabin plastic £25))
Small Oil leak from rear or mid somewhere, it is a few drops, Paul Lacey said dont worry about it, but I had asked to fix in scheduled work in 2024, that I wont do now.
2 x Keys only operates driver side. Lock passenger side from inside currently
AC either a fuse or compressor, but i have not used this function
I have probably forgotten something but its not intentional or major
other work done in 2022 with receipts:
Torque tube overhaul, Cambelt, alternator belt, Water pump and gasket and other parts, with new parts and labour £3, 500
Serviced in Sept 2021 by Porsche Specialist Services £870
I think the car is a good car, but need's the love I wanted to give it, I am not a mechanic nor would I rip anyone off. I paid £15, 000 on car and classics and have spent £2, 800 on her, my asking price is £12, 000 because of the current financial market and my health . She is not perfect but in the right hands could be, or left how she is she is a good car to have fun with or take to shows. It is a great car.
She is 36, not new.
11 months MOT, and once the omission's were adjusted flew through!
Starts every time.
No leaks inside anymore
Just serviced and overhauled
MAF re-calibrated
Fuel Hoses and Various Boots replaced
The sounds of this V8 is the best sound
Yes it needs small things doing to it if you want perfection, but then it would cost another £10, 000+
