1986 Volkswagen Scirocco GTX1 – With 1. 8 20v Turbo Audi Engine. Fully Restored.
Body/ Exterior – Full Glass out, panels off re-paint by Anthony Thomas at Rust Republic in Sheffield to its original Mars Red/ Black body kit factory finish. With any superficial rust addressed. New rear arch panels the same time. Doors, bonnet and boot painted both sides. Body kit restored and re-painted in satin black. All plastics restored and new items sourced where required. New windscreen fitted in 2019, all side windows etched with correct number plate for the car and original. VW Montreal (Bottle top) Wheels restored, with excellent condition Falken tyres all-round. New scraper seals, and GTX B Pilar badges. Headlights also relayed properly for extra power. New under bonnet waffle matting. 16v style b-sting roof aerial and standard wing mounted hole welded up. Tilt and slide sunroof, fully working.
Interior – Fully restored interior. Brand new custom fitted black cloth headlining. Good condition dashboard sourced to replace original cracked item. Car fully sound deadened with new bitumen pads throughout the main cabin area. New Newton Commercials sound deadening mats, new Newton Commercials full carpet, and also parcel shelf with new carpet and quarter carpet sections. New old stock Italvolanti steering wheel and custom boss with short spacer. Original rear seat. Recaro ‘Confetti’ front seats with adjustable leg front sections, on sliding subframes. Mk2 Golf fat indicator stalks, and Mk2 Golf 16v 160mph clocks. STACK gauges (backlit) in centre console for water temp, voltage, and boost. And 2x USB sockets. Heater core plumbed into coolant system, all works as it should, everything works as it should, all bulbs, switches, buttons and levers. Under dash trays removed for extra leg room. Rebuilt steering column with new upper and lower bearings. OEM electric windows sourced from a GT2 spec car with full VW looms, switches and regulators, all working as they should. Period spec stereo and upgraded door speakers and 6x9 speakers in the rear.
Chassis – No rust. Full underbody restoration from 2012 through to 2016. All suspension/ bearing and braking components replaced, restored or upgraded. Koni Yellow adjustable dampers front and rear, Noath engineering roll centre correction ball joints and track rod arms. Lower front strut brace. New Meyle steering rack and bushes. New complete fuel tank and filler neck, all bare metal restored etch primed, stone chipped and Waxoyled before installation, new fuel pumps, heat protected new ethanol resistant fuel lines and stainless-steel brackets.
Brakes – Mk2 Golf 16v larger servo and G60 master cylinder, fully restored linkage. Scirocco 16v (256mm) front brake setup, EBC yellow pads, EBC dimpled and grooved discs. Rear drums and pressure valves retained that are more than adequate, all new and restored, regularly checked and maintained. Full car braided lines from master cylinder to each corner by Jtech Automotive. No hardlines at any point.
Engine – 1. 8T (AGU code) 20v turbo motor from a 1996 Audi A3 Sport. Stripped back to bare short block and painted black, new genuine gaskets throughout and all bracket vapour blasted. Reconditioned cylinder head by Dave Crissell at All Stage cylinder heads. A newer Seat Ibiza K03 turbo charger fitted. Injectors serviced and cleaned. Front mounted intercooler, front mounted oil cooler, silicone turbo intake pipe, Jetex open cone filter. Wrapped QPeng de-cat downpipe connected to a custom made PowerFlow exhaust system (2. 25”) with subtle single pipe tip. Engine loom by OBD works. Engine controlled by ECUTech EMU Classic standalone management system. Extra sensors for safety including fuel pressure, oil pressure and oil temp. New Lucas alternator. Produced 200bhp on Jabbasports rolling road. Engine mapped by Kevin Glover with a view to making it as drivable and seamless as possible. Serviced regularly with cambelt and tensioner done in 2019 by myself with new aux belt. New Nissens radiator, genuine thermostat, new hoses, sensors and clips throughout.
Gearbox/ Drivetrain – 02J Gearbox completely rebuilt top to bottom by Martin Emment at GasNGears VW Gearbox specialists. Quaife ATB limited slip differential, 100mm outdrive cups. Sachs VR6 clutch attached to a lightened genuine G60 flywheel. Later 02J shift tower for better shifter and rebuilt internal shift level assembly to remove any play. All hydraulically actuated utilising the Just-Caddyz converted steering column. Feels just like a mk4 golf. Light and easy to drive. Rebuilt genuine 100mm Scirocco driveshafts.
Other – Full Sigma Cat 1 Thatcham alarm and immobiliser system wired directly to the fuse box professionally by OBD Works. This is a complete, and competent car re-built to the highest possible standard with carefully selected parts with a view to making a totally useable, modern classic with the performance capability to surprise some modern sports machinery.
