I have owned this vehicle since 1999, having bought it privately in Plymouth. The vehicle was as far as I know in it?s original condition, with no sign of any body work repairs, and the soft top was in well worn condition as was some of the the seat fabric. In July 2021, a new soft top was professionally fitted. I have also fitted good quality seat covers. Other than odd repairs, the vehicle is still in original condition, and I have all bills for those repairs, and test certificates since I have owned it.
There is no service history. The vehicle was last tested in January 2023, and has only been used sparingly over the years I have owned it, only covering less than 300 miles since the last MOT. However it has always been kept taxed, insured and MOT?d.
It has a tow hitch and is only used to tow a small trailer with garden rubbish.
The vehicle is fitted with a Cobra immobiliser.
I will include several photos in the advert showing the general condition inside and out, some of which were taken earlier this year, when the seats were stripped out. One also shows some corrosion in front of the rear wheel arch, which I have not tried to hide. There is a small hole to the side of the boot catch and some of the trim has seen better days. One of the speaker covers in the door is cracked in half, and there is only the arm to use to operate the driver?s side window.
The wheels are as fitted when I bought it, and there is a get you home spare wheel, Jack and wheel nut tool in the boot. A pretty unique automatic Mk. 1 Golf that is hard to find in this almost original condition, and an enthusiast could restore it to a very smart usable vehicle. It is always garaged, and not used in the wet .
When I am out and about, I get many comments regularly about how desirable this model is.
I can no longer justify keeping it as a second vehicle, but will be sorry to part with it. In a couple of years time, the excise duty will be nil, (Unless the government change their mind !)
