Description
Reluctant sale (aren't they always?) of my Sunflower Yellow (the best colour) Renault Mégane Coupé. I acquired it in May 2022 from an old lady in the village, having admired the car from afar since moving here in 2006. I'm a sucker for French tat.
The plan was to restore the car to former glory, but having stored the car since buying it, I sent it for an exploratory MOT to see what I'm facing. You can review the assessment online, but to save you a click, it needs the following:
Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
- Power steering inoperative and steering adversely affected belt broken
Repair immediately (major defects):
- Offside anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensor missing
- Anti-lock braking system warning lamp indicates an ABS fault
- Supplementary restraint system warning lamp indicates a fault
- Offside rear fog lamp not working
- Offside front service brake excessively binding
- Nearside front service brake excessively binding
- Nearside front integral body structure corroded to the extent that the rigidity of the assembly is significantly reduced floor pan
- Nearside front suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength floor pan
- Emissions unable to be completed engine overheating
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
- Nearside rear brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule
- Offside rear brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule
- Nearside front suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened
- Offside front suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened
- Rear sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened
So, quite a list. Having pondered it for a while – and with no progress to speak of – I'm going to move it on. There's little point in it sitting here over winter – the temperate rainforest would kill it.
To the MOT issues, I'll add that the paintwork is suffering from serious lacquer peel, there's some rust on the arches and there's clearly an issue with the transmission. I struggled to find gears on the way to the MOT test centre, but it seemed better on the way home. In fact, it has been fine in the paddocks. Equally, it hasn't overheated, so I'm not sure what happened during the MOT. That said, I'm advertising it as 'spare or repair' as it clearly needs a lot of work.
On the plus side, as a Coupé Sport II 1. 6e, it has Sportex/ leather seats, electric sunroof (doesn't leak), a 60-watt/ 6-speaker sound system, white dials, and front/ rear electric windows, although the rears don't work.
It's riding on a set of non-standard but more desirable 15-inch Mégane wheels wrapped in relatively new Falken rubber. The original wheels and tyres will be included with the sale.
Obviously, the car will need to be trailered away. I'm listing it on here because I can't face another eBay horror show. Please don't make an offer via the site as I can't respond with a comment and the fee would't make it worth my while! Cheers. I bought it because it I've always wanted to own a pre-facelift Mégane Coupé. This one appealed to me because I've known it for so long. It was also in the same family since new, having been bought by the lady's son in October 1998. I still have the original bill of sale.
