Description
One of 39 Speed 25 chassis fitted with Cross & Ellis tourer bodywork. All matching numbers as per Alvis Car Record document and Alvis Owner Club Speed 25 Register. The vehicle has had a total mechanical restoration including engine, chassis, suspension, steering, transmission, fuel tank and brakes etc. The wiring has been replaced and radiator re-cored.
The engine was totally rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, core plugs, timing chain etc. A 9" diaphragm clutch has been fitted to provide light and smooth operation. Very good oil pressure is maintained and the engine runs smoothly and does not overheat. Non-original carburettors are currently fitted but the originals plus air silencer are included. Little more than running-in mileage since rebuild. The rear axle benefits from a 3. 8 crown wheel & pinion assembly to give relaxed open road motoring.
The body and interior are mainly original with the coachwork presenting with age related patina and not a restored look. The doors, bonnet and boot etc are aluminium whereas the wings and running boards are steel and these could be improved in appearance with localised attention. Sections of the ash frame were replaced with professionally cut pieces as required, and all plywood panels were replaced with marine grade where necessary, including the inner rear wheel arches and hood box etc.
This Alvis can be enjoyed exactly as it is or given further attention to bring the appearance up to restored condition. The car is a joy to drive.
