Beschreibung

Beautifully rebuilt to exacting standards by myself who has over 30 years of classic car restoration experience, specialising in MGB's.
This particular GT was codenamed the 'Superleggera GT' due to my obsession with weight saving whilst keeping the GT looking more or less standard from the outside. Almost all weight saving is carefully hidden from view. However this GT does retain steel front wings (An obvious weight saving would be to fit Fibreglass front wings however over the years I've learnt that these do not keep their shape over time and have a tendency to ripple).
This car was built over a seven year time frame and it's purpose was to be a fast road GT that was also capable of track use and general use without it being too harsh.

The GT was bought from an old customer who had started restoration but it stalled due to his health. The car had been off the road since 1986 and had low mileage of around 51k genuine miles.

I started it's restoration in 2016 and used only the best parts I could. This build is well documented on Youtube 'Superleggera GT' parts 1 to 32 up to this point. Also in finer detail it can be found on my Instagram page Cradsport Racing.

The spec on this build I will try to summarize ;
During the Metal work phase (which included new sills) I also engineered a robust panard rod mounting which is triangulated into the boot floor. And included extra chassis legs from the front of the rear spring hangers to the centre cross member - in order to help spread stress of a more power ICE. This is future proofing the GT.
The rear suspension also has mounts to run a Ron Hopkinson rear anti roll bar (which is included with the car) although I'm currently not running this.
The rear lever arm shocks have adjustable valves and run a lighter grade oil. The rear shackles are polybushed, whilst the ride height is lowered with lightweight blocks by 1 inch and are secured with nylon spring pads. The leaf springs are new and have had two leaves removed.
The rear axle is a genuine W/ W axle and is therefore lighter than a standard width axle. This allows fitment of 5. 5j TR6 wheels without any arch rubbing issues. The wheel arch lip is also rolled.

The front suspension uses V8 wishbone bushes and lever arm shocks. At the moment it runs standard coil springs but is an Inch lower due to dropped spindles and adjusted steering arms. This ensures that the standard geometry is retained. It runs a 3/ 4 inch front anti roll bar which is polybushed. Certain components have been lightened including the front crossmember.

Steering is completely standard albeit with a Nardi Wheel.

The engine; Is Skiptune built bored to 1840cc, balanced bottom end with 285 Piper cam and vernier gears, It has a lightweight aluminium back plate and aluminium water pump. A stage two head with flowed ports, three angled seats, unleaded exhaust seats and double valve springs. It runs 123 ignition, flowed HS6 SU carbs with custom made carbon nylon 100mm trumpets.
Exhaust is the Tourist Trophy Stainless steel full system with wrapped manifold. And was rolling road tuned by Slark Engineering.

The gearbox is standard 4 speed Overdrive but with a lightened gearbox crossmember.

Bodywork is finished in Aston Martin Forest Green, inside, outside and underneath. The car has had a complete bare metal paint job (Including removing all underseal which weighed in a 4kgs) with meticulous attention paid to panel fit. Including an aluminium bonnet, Frontline spoiler, lighten door shells and internal mechanisms. The underneath and wheel arches are finished in Upol Raptor as is the inside.

The Interior is carpeted in Antique red with Vickers red leather seats and matching interior panels. The rear seats have been removed and there are colour coded aircraft style belts. The dashboard has been completely refinished in the correct crackle black finish, the instruments have green led illumination. The pedals have been lightened as well the pedal box and the accelerator pedal has been moved closer to the brake pedal to allow for very easy heel and toeing and a clutch rest has been fitted.

The brakes have Ferrodo pads, standard disks with stainless steel hoses all round, lighten rear back plates with stock drums on rear. Runs Castrol racing brake fluid, the pedal feel is extremely firm.

Wheels and tyres; Standard TR6 rims powered coated in Seat Bronze with Nangkang NS 2R track bias tyres. The GT is kept in an dehumidified garage and has done around 2k miles since completed. All the niggles have been ironed out and the car drives faultlessly with good power.

I have completed one track day at Castle Combe where the car passed much more powerful cars, the grip, handling and braking are amazing.

The car is drop dead gorgeous with all the best parts, I'm only putting it up for sale so I can entertain another project. I'm in no rush to sell and I'm conscious that to build a replica of this car professionally would be circa 40k.

There is far more to say about this beautiful MG and it's all in the detail. I have endless pictures and information, if you're looking for the best GT you can get apart from a Frontline car this has got to be up there.
