Harley Davidson 1978 Ironhead Chopper
For sale is a custom 1978 XLH Sportster Ironhead chopper/ bobber.
Matching numbers – engine, frame and title.
V5 and registered as ‘historic vehicle’ and is therefore MOT and tax exempt.
Electric start. Original 1000cc Ironhead engine with 4 speed transmission
This is a really nice example of an Ironhead chopper/ bobber and the bike is a great bar hopper, it’s light and easy to maneuver, especially around London.
The bike has a load of new, original and aftermarket parts which are listed below:
• Original 1000cc Ironhead engine with 4 speed transmission
• All new wiring, including new relay, eliminating any gremlins!
• New S&S Super E Carb with teardrop air cleaner
• Blue metal flake paint (a few blemishes that add to the look of the bike)
• -2” springer front end, color matched to the tank and frame
• Peanut tank
• 40 spoke 19inch front wheel and new tire
• 40 spoke 19inch rear wheel with new tire and brand new disc and caliper set-up, all billet chrome (good stopping power)
• OEM mid controls
• White leather solo seat, with new springs and white matching grips, shifter and pegs
• Colour matched kidney oil tank
• New chrome drag exhausts
• Bobbed rear fender with custom struts
• Drag style bars with ‘push/ pull’ throttle.
• 1928-32 Ford Duolamp ‘Stop’ stoplight
• Chrome battery box
• Chrome covered shocks
• Bates style headlight with side switch control
The bike has recently been gone over by the team at Riverbank Motorcycles (London) to tidy up any issues.
The bike is running well and in overall great condition for a 1978. Remember she is a 45 year old bike, so there will always be something to tinker with to keep her running right – but it is good to go and the new custodian can her ride away!
