This is an outstanding example of the ground-breaking 125cc two-stroke Honda CR125M Elsinore. Comprehensively restored with many OEM and other new and reconditioned parts, including all new plastics and stainless/ high tensile fixings.
New for 1976, and for 2 years only, Honda offered prospective Elsinore buyers an agile package consisting of a sturdy but lightweight chrome-moly frame, 7 inches of travel suspension and crisp little 125cc two-stroke motor equally at home on dirt track, forest trail or road. Riders loved these versatile little machines: however, starting in 1978, the hitherto road-based Elsinore was progressively transformed into a full-blooded competition racer.
The early 'dual sport' model models are prized by both collectors of classic Japanese motorcycles and by those simply looking for a compact, easy to ride, but nevertheless exciting lightweight.
So far, I've only ridden it in my garden, but the bike is registered with DVLA as a Historic Vehicle and could quickly be made road legal with just a few additions such as speedo (suitable head and cable supplied), horn and number plate.
The bike was restored previous to my ownership and aside from a thorough test and 'shakedown' my main contribution has been to fit a pair of brand new Suzuki TS250 rear shock absorbers which I had specially machined (by Terry Ives of Stotfold Engineering) to suit the Elsinore frame and which work very well.
I was also able to procure a good clean Honda electronic ignition from the USA as a working spare - the one on the bike appears quite satisfactory provided the correct spark plug and cap are used, but this will be supplied if I'm happy with the price. I also have a spare new front red plastic mudguard.
I have made a short video of the bike running which can be shared on WhatsApp, but best to come and see it for yourself. All genuine enquiries are welcomed.
