Description
Very rare 1986 D registration Vauxhall Carlton 1. 8GLS saloon in red with black plush velour seats in excellent condition (see pics).
Mine since September 2019 as a second car just used to go to classic car shows and runs out during the summer. Unused now for just over 2 years it needs to be enjoyed by a new owner.
Engine now starts and runs having fitted a new fuel pump and a couple gallons of fresh petrol in the tank (old stale petrol siphoned out). Car also drives nice and stops on good but noisy brakes due to lack of use.
In my ownership it has had various jobs done including:
4 brand new tyres
New spark plugs
Several oil and filter changes
New front brake callipers and pads
New rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders
New brake fluid throughout
Rear seat belts fitted
Front wheel tracking reset
In addition to the above in December 2020 I bought and fitted a new manual choke carburettor from a company called Webcon of Sunbury, Middlesex costing £385. The factory GM auto choke carburettor was very unreliable and made the engine run either too rich or weak resulting in irratic tick over and sluggish performance.
I’ve kept the old GM carburettor just in case the new owner wishes to overhaul it for refitting.
I have a folder full of MOT certificates dating back to 1990 and various garage invoices for servicing and repairs. Included in the sale is the original owners manual containing hand written notes added presumably by the cars first owner. There is also a Philips booklet for the standard radio/ cassette player issue date 02/ 86. Included in the sale are some spares and a Haynes manual.
Mileage on the clock is 102, 600 and the car is 38 years old.
Please note that in 2 years time this Carlton will qualify for road tax and MOT exemption under current legislation.
I will put the car through an MOT test once a sale is agreed and a deposit secured.
Asking price of £2495 is firm for this very rare icon of 1980s motoring history. Thank you for your interest. Had one of these as a company car back in the day and it was so very comfortable even though a lower spec. model. You just don’t see Carlton’s any more so a proper attention getter at shows.
