The R230-generation SL55 AMG occupies a hallowed place in the Mercedes-Benz pantheon. Its hand-built, supercharged 5.4-litre V8 produces a prodigious 493bhp and 516 lb-ft of torque, yet it is wrapped in the elegant, retractable-hardtop body of the SL — a car equally at home wafting along a coastal road as it is devouring a motorway. With Active Body Control suspension, immense braking hardware, and that distinctive AMG soundtrack, it remains one of the great modern grand tourers.
This Obsidian Black example, showing 64,000 miles, is presented in fine fettle. Having spent much of its life with an elderly couple who used it as a weekend cruiser before storing it to preserve its condition, the car has benefited from conscientious ownership throughout. It has been health-checked by a Mercedes specialist, who, we're told, described it as one of the best SL55s he had ever seen.
The current keeper - just the third - has continued that standard of care, commissioning a raft of preventative mechanical work.
