Descrição
1985 Porsche 924 2. 0 Lux. First registered in late April 1985, so this is one of the last 2. 0 litre normally aspirated cars. Colour sapphire, which is really silver with a hint of blue. Black pinstripe interior. Recent MOT with no advisories.
I purchased the car in 2021 as a non-running lockdown sanity project, on the promise that it was rust free, which proved accurate (these later 924s were fully galvanised). I undertook an extensive overhaul of the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system and flushed out the petrol tank. The electrics also required lots of work before I was able to return the car to the road in 2022. Since then work has continued as a rolling restoration project. I'm a member of the 924 Owner's Club, which I'd strongly recommend as a friendly source of invaluable expert advice.
The 924 starts very well from cold and has proved reliable. I've completed several long journeys without any problems - not with the car at least! Since I fitted a well known K-Jet modification it also starts quickly when hot.
During my ownership I've replaced the cam & drive belts, the water pump, the battery, the Bosch fuel pump, fitted numerous replacement fuel system parts and had the Bosch alternator professionally refurbished. I recently replaced the silencer and had four new Avon tyres fitted (the spare appears unused).
The Lux spec includes an electric tilt & removable sunroof (with the original storage bag), electric mirrors, electric windows, headlight washers & front centre armrest with cassette storage. All the electrics work, including the iconic pop-up headlights. The only exception is the radio cassette player, which has been disconnected as I was unhappy with the wiring. If I get time before the sale I'll sort this out and fit a replacement aerial that will otherwise come with the car.
The bodywork is generally presentable and certainly rust free, however I wouldn't describe it as show standard. There is some paint reaction on the sunroof (I believe it is a composite material) and the roof itself has some lacquer peel. Following a mishap whilst I was pushing the car in the garage there are some ripples in the driver's door, although the paint remains intact. Otherwise there are the usual chips & scuffs that you'd expect to see on a 39 year old car. Having said that, the car attracts lots of positive attention and interest.
The interior also presents well. I've deep cleaned the carpets and upholstery, fitted a new leather gear lever gaiter and billet aluminium shift indicator and added tailored floor mats. The seat bases are just starting to split slightly along the seams. The dash top on these always seem to crack but mine is far better than many I've seen - the car is garaged and I try to cover the dash if I ever leave it in the sun.
The car has been serviced every winter since I've owned it and it has fresh Castrol Magnatec oil, all filters, plugs & a new distributor cap.
This is a surprisingly practical modern classic that is ready to use and enjoy 'as is', or a good base to take to the next level with further cosmetic improvements. It will be 40 years old next year, so it will soon be eligible for historic vehicle status along with MOT and ULEZ exceptions. I'm only selling because I suffer from back & knee problems and I really need to waft around in a taller automatic car.
Viewings are very welcome and I'll take you for a drive over some of our beautiful Peak District roads. Any test drives will be at my discretion on the day and subject to proof of full insurance cover. Payment to be made direct by bank transfer. The car will not be released until funds have cleared.
The car was recently independently valued by the 924 Owner's Club at £5, 000. I'm offering it for £4, 495 which is a great price for a well sorted Porsche sports car. That price will also include all the spares that I've accumulated, along with a Haynes manual.
Don't forget it's got pop-up headlights! This Porsche 924 comes with the original handbook & wallet, along with two folders containing an extensive service record, receipts etc going back to the first service. This reveals that the original owner was the London advertising agency that came up with the "For mash get Smash" commercial that older readers will remember!
Two keys are present, on a Porsche fob.
