Late Triumph T120V, lock-in Bonnie.
Built just before the Meriden workers blockaded the Triumph factory, meaning this bike was locked in the Meriden works from it's build date of 15/ 09/ 73 until it was released to Jack Butler's in Leamington Spa on 26/ 07/ 74. It was then purchased by it's one owner (prior to me) who kept it for the rest of his life.
I purchased it in bits in 2014. Since then I have carried out lots of restoration work on the bike, and have bought it lots of new bits with the intention of getting her back together. Unfortunately I've run out of time to complete the build as I'm downsizing to smatter premises.
Bike comes with lots of documentation, including photos of her when she was new.
All the paintwork has been restored including professional job on the petrol tank. The engine has been stripped and all Aluminium bits vapour blasted, lots of bits have been re-plated. New forks, rear shocks, rims/ spokes, saddle, loom, indicators, etc. Will need some more bits like exhaust system, but a straight forward rebuild with lots of the hard/ dirty work already done.
Crankcase numbers match, and engine number matches frame number, and V5C
Ran out of time to photo engine, will try and do this and upload pics soon.
AS you can see I've added pics of the engine and other bits, I bought a low miles replacement crank as the original had been hammered on the crank nose by a loose rotor, big ends are standard and good to go, new hex sludge bung, new little ends fitted, new big end nuts fitted, new old stock inner gearbox cover as original had damage to layshaft thrust washer retainer peg, this new inner has been vapour blasted to match the other cases, weld and helicoil repair to one large rear chaincase cover screw hole. All the cams that came with the engine were like threepenny bits so I have sourced a couple of good used cams. You'll see from the photos that all the fixings for the engine that were re-usable have been replated, new Morgo stainless barrel nuts. Also photo'ed is new frame oil filter. The 1974 T120V has the best 5 speed box, not the problematic early ones. It has the triplex primary drive in common with the 750 T140V, it also has the metric timing side main bearing allowing fitment of a modern 'top hat' high load main bearing. Bike has disc front brake, which is much better than the earlier conical hub. Also by the time this bike was built, the seat rails had been lowered compared to the early OIF frame, making the seat height more comfortable, and the centre stand mounting was reinforced compared to early frames. So best of all worlds, widely regarded as the last and best 650 OIF Bonnie. Last few photos are of this bike in the summer of 1975, the TOMCC dating letter, some of the paperwork history for the bike and lastly a factory picture of a T120V from 1974.
Needs a good home and someone who can put her back together and on the road where she belongs!
