Description
This is an opportunity for the classic Japanese car enthusiast/ collector to buy what is probably the lowest mileage original UK supplied Datsun 240Z HS30 left in the country and without question the best available on the market today. It has covered a verified and documented 24, 000 miles from new and is in absolutely superb collector condition throughout.
The first owner purchased it new in 1971 and only used it regularly for the first 5 or 6 years of it's life. It was then garaged and used only sparingly thereafter, but each year it was given an MOT and a checkover/ service. It remained with him until at the age of 80 years old he could no longer easily get in and out of the car and that is when I became the second lucky owner in 2020.
It comes with unprecedented provenance and paperwork which verifies the genuine mileage in the form of a box folder with all MOTs going back to 1982, old tax discs and many receipts and invoices for work going back to the mid-1970's.
In recent years as the owner no longer felt confident driving the car any distance due to his age, he had it trailered over to Fourways Engineering (the leading Z specialists in the country) for servicing and upgrades which included a brand new stainless exhaust system fitted in 2019.
In my care the car been cosmetically improved and recently given a full repaint to a high standard in the original colour. In his quest to keep the car in good condition in the late 1970's, the original owner painted Tetrosyl black underseal on the sills and wheel arch lips thinking this would protect the body from rust (which it did well) but then created a problem in that it proved impossible to remove after 45 years, hence the necessity for new paint. Everything else on the car is in superb original unmolested condition, the body, mechanicals, interior, engine bay, chrome etc.
The undersides and floors are all original factory steel and have never seen any rust or needed welding (almost unheard of for UK supplied Zs of this vintage) together with the sills and arches which all still have the original factory spot welds present. The only metalwork required prior to paint was a replacement rear slam panel under the tailgate, a common issue caused by water collecting in that area.
The car runs and drives as well as it looks giving an experience as close to driving a new 240Z in the early 70's as is possible to re-create. In it's day with 150bhp on tap, the 0-60 sprint time of 8 secs was very quick. Even the much heralded Golf GTI, the first so called hot hatch which came a few years later could not better that time.
The six cylinder inline engine in this car is the quietest, smoothest and sweetest revving L24 unit I have ever heard or driven (numbering quite a few over the years) again testament to it's incredibly low mileage and servicing over the years. The wheels and tyres are new replacements over the original 14 inch Wolf Race slot alloys that were dealer supplied with the car when new. The originals are available should that be a preference for any buyer.
