Description

The Rivage edition was Volkswagen's swan song for the venerable Mk. 1. Just 470 Rivage's were built and all came lavishly equipped with distinctive Le Castellet forged alloy wheels, sports seats, mohair powered hood, heated seats and distinctive decals on the rear quarter panels.

History:
Supplied new to a David Challenger by Listers of Stratford Upon Avon on 01 August 1992 explains the cherished number plate K3 DCC which it has kept from first registration – now valued at around £1300. It was looked after in its early life by Vindis & Sons Cambridge.

Six previous owners and in genuine original condition, it has covered a total mileage of 50, 750 in its pampered life. The paperwork shows it covered a moderate 32, 000 in its first 5 years of life, 14, 000 miles over the following 16 years, then just 4, 000 in the last 11 years. Making total mileage if just 50, 750. Garaged and only used sparingly by the current owner it came from 8 years ownership prior to that and 10 years ownership prior to that. The current owner made contact to verify and reminisce.

Paperwork:
A huge folder full of paperwork detailing all maintenance work carried out during the life of the car. All of the original handbooks within the original VW wallet, including the service book. Also included are the original VW colour gloss sales brochures for the limited edition Rivage, Sportline and Clipper.

Interior:
The interior of this Rivage is in outstanding and immaculate and condition. The only upgrades being a retro modern Blauplunkt Essen DAB BT stereo and the very useful triple VDO gauges. Heated seats, power hood and electric windows all working correctly as does everything else include the digital MFI display.

Exterior:
The exterior is in remarkable condition for the car's age, completely solid with absolutely no rust or corrosion. The underside is solid with evidence of original wax oil rust proofing mirrored by the reassuring MOT history.

In current ownership this Rivage has had the Cambelt replaced for peace of mind, service by a specialist, a new VW gear box linkage kit fitted and a brand new battery fitted which sits on a trickle charge conditioner when not in use. It has also recently had a custom built stainless steel exhaust, which has a lovely original throaty sound.

The forged alloys are immaculate and are shod in 4 x as new Pirelli P7 Cintuartos. The Hood is in good condition and completely leak free, it has a very small nick above the driver’s side door pictured. It is complemented by its original tonneau cover and the optional VW wind deflector. The engine bay is clean and well maintained with a battery shut off key for easy winter storage preparation if needed.

There are other parts included with the car for the new owner including a complete set of poly bushes and a spare VW steering wheel and a Momo steering wheel and boss.

Appeal:
The Golf GTI is an iconic car within the automotive world, surviving many generational tweaks and faces. Consider this Rivage a 'Greatest Hits' album by the Mk. 1 band.
With the love and attention that this example has received over its lifetime this is an excellent chance to own a stunning and well looked after example of a retro icon of the 20th century.
