Sadly service history has been misplaced but many test documents are still kept. The WRX (World Rally eXperimental) flat-four engine was turbocharged, and developed around 235bhp in initial trim. Modest by today’s standards but anything but in-period, the Scooby fed its power to the tarmac via a manual gearbox and a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system.
The later cars officially boasted 280bhp and 250lb/ ft of torque, enough to propel the 1, 300kg Impreza to a top speed of 155mph via a 0-62mph time of just 4. 7 seconds. Some, like this one, are believed to have even more power and performance, albeit unofficially.
This model is a Subaru Impreza WRX Type R V Limited edition, an exceptionally rare spec.
This particular model is 264 / 1000 but it is believed that actually only around 350 were manufactured.
