FORD ESCORT Mk1 1300 XL 4 Door - ORIGINAL only 32, 500 from new.
The description shows the car as 'RED' that is according to the V5C if you look at the Ford history the car is Sunset which you will see from the photographs. Note this car has never been repainted all panels etc original paint.
This pretty unique car (Historic Vehicle) has a recorded mileage of 32, 500 miles, 4 previous owners from new with one owner having it garaged for the majority of its life c40 years, then allowed out for its annual service and MOT. From 1975 until 2017, during his ownership (second owner) it covered 14, 374 miles and this history file has the MoT certificates from 1983 to validate the mileage.
The car then passed to a family friend who then sold the car onto me.
The Ford 1300XL was the deluxe version of the Ford Escort range back in 1973 with:
Interior: The GT style six dial instrument binnacle (Speedo, Rev Counter, Water Temperature Gauge, Fuel Gauge, Battery indicator and Oil Pressure Gauge). Also included Two speed wipers, two speed heater/ demister fan, ash trays, ‘simulated wood fascia to dashboard and door cappings.
Exterior: The 1300XL logos on front wings, Stainless steel finish to sill plates and deluxe wheel trims.
Since build: the original inertia belts were very problematic so when I first had the car I had “Burton” inertia wheel seat belts fitted in both the front and the rear seats.
Condition: The paintwork on the car is totally original, a unique patina, and yes there are signs of age but the car is only original once and I have resisted any temptation to restore accepting its unique appeal. The panels of the car are very straight.
The interior is very good as you would expect from a car that has covered such low mileage, there is no wear on the black loop pile carpets (probably always protected by car mats), with some very minor wear on the seats.
Mechanically: the car starts on the button, runs well, brakes have been overhauled recently and a new alternator fitted does not leak or burn oil between services (what you would expect from the low mileage).
This is a great and rare four door Mark 1 Escort, it was the top of the Ford Range back in the 1970s and has survived unmolested. I am happy for any inspection just ask for a convenient time and I will supply trolley jack and the space for inspection etc. This car represents a fantastic testament to a true Ford icon and its all original!
