Description
An original Lotus Europa Twin-Cam with the 4 speed gearbox, finished in classic Lotus yellow with an oatmeal interior and the correct Dunlop alloy wheels. Whilst not a big-valve Special, it does have the more powerful SE version of the twin-cam engine with twin Dell'Ortos from factory (letter confirming), and has latterly been fitted with the silver sill covers and gold pinstriping.
Retaining its original chassis, the car has never been fully restored but has benefited from an extensive, documented history of maintenance, with the major items being an engine rebuild and full repaint in 1991 (summary list in photos).
I purchased the car last autumn when the previous long-term owner (~20 years) disposed of it through Classic Car Auctions, due to a combination of lack of use and an apparent overheating problem. Since then I have carried out a programme of recommissioning, including: a comprehensive service, new alternator and voltage regulator, new Lumenition Optronic ignition system, carburettor rebuild and fitting 5 new Yokahama Advan HF Type-D tyres (not the right period but very funky and suit the car well). It is now running and driving well and the apparent overheating was simply a failing voltage regulator causing the gauge to over-read!
Cosmetically, the car presents well but being a Lotus the now 30+ year old paint is showing areas of micro-blistering and the odd minor stress crack, which I've tried to capture in the photos, and the interior would benefit from a retrim. I bought the car on a whim because I've always wanted a 1960/ 70s period Lotus and whilst I've very much enjoyed owning and working on it, I'm finding I've got too many other projects and the Lotus just isn't getting used. Therefore, it is time for it to find a new custodian who will hopefully continue its history of being used, maintained and enjoyed as a Lotus should!
