Description

1959 MASERATI 3500 GT TOURING SUPERLEGGERA MODEL 3500 GT CARBURETTORS CHASSIS CHASSIS 101 - 604 ENGINE 101 - 604 TOURING CAR BODYWORK 6768 CYLINDER 3500cc KM 800 FROM RESTORATION INTERIOR LEATHER, NEUTRAL WHITE PAC1544 EXTERIOR Red Cordoba metallic 106R7Sold new in the Netherlands by the dealer Maasland to the first owner, it was registered on 20 October 1959. Originally the car was white with a red interior. On 29 December 1965 ownership was transferred to the second owner J. V. Bertholee residing in 'S-Gravenhage. Over the years of his ownership the car was repainted blue. In 1988 ownership passed to Mike van Helsdingen. At that time the car was complete but after many years of disuse it needed a complete restoration.
So it was completely disassembled to begin restoration work, which lasted for several years and eventually led van Helsdingen to give up and sell it in 2006 to an Italian professional specialising in 'Touring Superleggera' cars. A few months later, on 9 February 2007, the professional sold it to an Italian collector who undertook a professional restoration of a high standard.
Over the course of the following years, the bodywork and mechanics were fully restored, but the completion and assembly work slowed down considerably due to the difficulty of finding numerous spare parts and finishing touches needed to perfect the restoration. The Italian collector also gave up and decided to sell the car to Cristiano Luzzago, who bought it on 9 June 2014. Using his experience and knowledge of the sector, Cristiano completed the restoration and put the car back on the road within the year.
The car became part of Cristiano Luzzago's private collection, and over the following years he used it to take part in Registro Touring Superleggera events and other local events. The restoration work carried out since 2014 is accompanied by supporting invoices, and there are also all the invoices for the maintenance and improvement work carried out over the years to date. The engine and chassis numbers match. The original Dutch registration card is still present in the car's documentation.

Recently, the third owner Mike van Helsidingen, having learned that the car belongs to Cristiano Luzzago's collection, kindly provided a series of historical photographs of the car taken at the time of its purchase in 1988 and other photographs documenting the start of restoration work that was never completed. On 29 September 2024, it participated in the Castello di Meano Concours d'Elegance, winning the special jury prize for the most elegant sports car.
