Description
In 1958, the Renault–Alfa Romeo alliance for the production of the Dauphine at the Portello plant bearing the Biscione badge was signed.
The car we present is one of the 6, 500 produced in 1959, precisely on 17 October 1959, according to production records at the Alfa Romeo Documentation Centre, with sale on 24 October and delivery of original BS plates and warranty from 26 October 1959. The car was bought by a 37-year-old woman who kept it mainly for urban use and always parked it in a garage. The car came with: the purchase contract and invoice, the warranty booklet and service records, the car brochure, the plates and the logbook updated in 1971 for a change of residence.
In the second half of the 1970s, it was withdrawn by our then Renault dealership in part-exchange for a new R5. Since then it remained in the dealership until 2016, when we were invited to pass it on to a Brescia-based enthusiast who ran a fuel forecourt. He applied for the ASI and CRS certificates. After selling the forecourt, not knowing where to keep it, he proposed to buy it back. We proceeded to request the Alfa Romeo Certificate of Origin, which confirmed that it is a matching-number and matching-colour car.
We also carried out a major service (with accompanying documentation) to bring it up to excellent running condition. Today we can certify a car that will cruise at a light touch on the accelerator to 90 km/ h, with the steering steady and straight, proper braking, a gear change without play, and all instrumentation and service systems functioning. As the era’s advertising put it: “You steer it with one finger, you command it with a foot!”
A charming and honest car, that takes you not only with ease but, like a powerful time machine, carries you back to the fabulous 1960s with a page of history that is not easily retrievable. A car that, like all things, must be loved; and if it is loved, it can give a great deal of satisfaction to the enthusiast who pays attention to detail.
Vehicle unique for its history, with a copy of the purchase contract, original plates and documents, brochure, owner's manual and maintenance. Serviced and ready to use!
