Description

ALFA ROMEO 2000 GT VELOCE “BERTONE” 1971
Produced on 7 July 1971, chassis AR 2421152 in Biancospino (013) with a black Texalfa-plasticised fabric interior (Texalfa), as certified by the Alfa Romeo Documentation Centre, it was sold by the old Cinelli & De Anna dealership in Pordenone to a young 37-year-old architect from San Stino di Livenza. Subsequently it “emigrated” to the Province of Frosinone, and finally to Latina. In 53 years it has changed hands a few times, including one for death and four to dealers or pseudo-dealers. Fortunately the car has undergone conservation-restoration work that has kept it to the level you see, with preserved interiors, engine bay in order, a solid repaint, mechanically in excellent condition, with all instrumentation functioning. The Alfa Romeo 2000 GT VELOCE is the last and prestigious top-of-the-range coupé version of the Giulia series, born with the 1600 Sprint GT in 1964, conceived by a very young Giorgetto Giugiaro while at Bertone. The racing experience of the 1750 GTAm, born in 1966, over the years led to development of the engine from 1779 to 1962 cm³. The new engine, non-turbocharged for racing, intended for road production, was designated by the code AR 00512. For enthusiasts, the engine number is 09174. The 2000 GT Veloce also featured stylistic updates: a new front grille with chrome bars and a raised Alfa Romeo shield and integrated headlights, enlarged rear lights, secondary instrumentation grouped in the “quadrifoglio” style behind the horn wheel (Hellebore); new front seats, still with headrests. Among the options were Millerighe alloy wheels. The 2000 GT Veloce is the first Alfa Romeo to display, on the rear pillars, the sporting badge depicting the green enameled serpent. The power increase pushed the stated top speed to over 195 km/ h. The US magazine “Hot Rod” in October 1980 described the Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce as “the only European car able to be called muscle car.”I had heard about the histories of the first and second owners and, having seen and driven the car, I was prompted to buy it
