Description
This is a very usable Jensen Interceptor Mk 3 J series car that has been looked after all of its life. In its current state any new owner will not have to deal with any body work issues and the car has just had completed a full service by a Jensen specialist and during course of ownership new parts fitted as listed below.
The car has undergone a full mechanical overhaul during my ownership and in 2024 underwent a full back to bare metal restoration that also included inner and outer sills on both sides of the car.
Diligent work was carried out by the classic car specialist that did this work, including removing the old paint by hand with no chemicals or dipping/ blasting and research into the original factory colour - Moss Green to ensure it would retain its factory colour - inside and out.
During the course of the restoration, I made the decision not to replace the original leather as it was in good condition and new leather is never the same but decided to restore the existing interior so that it was brought back to a even colour in factory Rolls Royce beige,
All chrome work was re-done except for the bumpers as the previous owner had had that work done previously. The original five wheels were diamond cut as there was no need to buy new or get any upgraded wheels and they all are fitted with appropriate Blockley tyres.
The car is currently at 62, 000 miles but this will go up as it will still be used to travel to events and general leisure use until sold.
This is not a "cheap" car but it has had all the work done to it and so if you are looking for a Jensen Interceptor then this one will not need works to it and you will avoid the pitfalls of a £30K+ car needing £50K+ of bodywork etc doing to it to bring it up to this level.
Mechanical work carried out during my tenure of the car include:
Full LED bulb replacement inside and out, including headlights with new bowls and Cibie lenses.
New start solenoid
Ignition switch
Engine bay wiring harness
Ignition coil
Air con pipes upgraded to current specification.
Four new shocks
New front springs ( Mark 2 to lower the nose)
Rear leaf springs refurbished and wrapped.
New stainless steel fuel tank
New fuel bowl
Gearbox and torque converter refurbished
New bump stops
Refurbished steering rack
New ball joints
Super Pro bushes fitted throughout (except engine mounts)
New track rod ends
Replacement three speed fan for the interior fitted.
New brake callipers
New brake lines
New fuel lines
New Holley Carb
Edelbrock aluminium intake manifold
New throttle and speedo cables
New vapour separator
New plugs, leads, distributer cab and rotor arm
New Powermaster upgraded alternator (90A)
Under the body restoration, all rubbers renewed for apertures, new carpet colour matched to original specification and electrical check on middle wiring harness with a new classic look radio fitted and new speakers all around. ( Original 8 track will be provided as part of the sale but will need restoration.)
Before it is handed over to a new owner, it will come with a new MOT and I will have the air conditioning rechargedThis car is in great condition obviously after its restoration and has always run very well and so as long as it continues to be looked after and run regularly then then it will give many years of motoring pleasure.
I had wanted a Jensen Interceptor for a long time and so after joining the Jensen Owners Club to get advise and using their technical information and contacts, I finally lined up several cars to look at and this one was number 2. I never went out to buy a green car but it took 30 seconds to decide yes due largely to the fitment of the rear tailgate which fits perfectly for the car and hadn't been messed around with.
So I came away from west London with a Moss Green car which despite being a popular colour choice in 1973, there were apparently only two in that colour in the UK when I bought it and maybe this one maybe the last as many owners change the colour over time. So it is very original and well known in Jensen circles because of its colour, journeys etc especially in the south west of the UK.
Having said that the car has travelled around the UK under my ownership (from February 2016), has done continental trips to France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany with no issues of major consequence.
Back history:
I have traced previous owners and have factory records (copies) for the car and in total it has had 7 owners in its lifetime, though one may have been a motor trader as it was registered for two weeks in someone's name.
Original Devon owner for three years before trading it in for new one.
Essex owner / trader - 2 weeks?
Wiltshire owner for five years
Hampshire owner for two years
Isle of Man for 16 years as a company director car and then personal owned.
West London for 8 years ( Hence why the one previous owner indication on V5)
North Somerset - 2016 onwards ( Currently 9 years)
It has gone through several registration plate numbers in its life and the current registration was issued by the DVLA on its return to the UK from the Isle of Man and I have been unable to get the original number back for the car but it is a age related registration on the car.
There is a large file with all back history and receipts for works / parts since 1998 which shows the amount of love for the car I and the previous owner have / had for it. There is also a USB stick of pictures from the restoration of the body work which like mentioned included inner and outer sills, one part of the drivers side floor and the two seatbelt mounts in the rear wheel arches. In addition the rear wheel arches were refurbished and a new front valance was fitted. The engine was left in situ as the engine bay area is all original including the body insulation.
