Second owner from August 1986A rare opportunity to acquire a car with a "Myers" chassis and body restoration, converting it to a dhc. I am the second owner buying the car in 1986 when the engine had a top end overhaul with new inlet valves (Big Valve), exhaust valves, valve guides and seats and a new water pump. Also a new radiator and complete clutch assembly were fitted.
Following an accident in 1989, the car had a full body and chassis restoration with a genuine Lotus Replacement chassis and the bodywork stripped and "Myers" prepared i. e. all body shut-lines "cut and glassed" to give outstanding door, bonnet, boot lid and headlamp pod fit before final preparation and full respray by SMS in British Racing Green. Extra laminations were made behind handles and hinges.
All chassis components were stripped, inspected and renewed as necessary to rebuild the car to original Lotus specification. Major items were:
New Lotus Replacement chassis.
New differential (3. 77 : 1).
New wiring loom.
New top tint windscreen.
New dashboard.
New (correct) steering wheel.
New hood frame and hood. Tonneau cover.
Suspension stripped, checked and rebuilt.
Steering unit checked, correctly fitted and adjusted.
New Dunlop SP Aquajet tyres fitted to correct wheels, balanced and aligned.
New brake pipes, brake calipers stripped and rebuilt.
Fuel tank cleaned and repainted. New fuel lines. New locking filler cap.
Back on the road in 1997, the car was run, serviced and maintained covering about 500 miles a year until 2012 when I bought an Elan S1, then put into maintained storage with monthly runs so about 100 miles a year. In 2019 a new Lucas Sport Coil and Magnecor HT leads were fitted. The front brakes were rebuilt with stainless steel pistons.
The interior was fully restored in 2014 using Mick Miller parts and an original full tonneau, Owner's Handbook, Brochure and Price List come with the car.
In 2022 a refurbished Lucas 23D distributor with Aldon electronic ignition was fitted along with a new ignition switch; the wheels were refurbished and new stainless steel drive pegs were fitted along with new OE rear lamp lenses and screws and numberplate lamps; the engine bay was refreshed.
Reason for sale: I am restoring a JPS Elan Plus 2.
Valued by Club Lotus at £38000.
