We are delighted to offer this immaculate and fully restored 1967 Lotus Elan Type 36 Coupe for sale.
Having won both F1 drivers and constructors championships, Lotus introduced the Elan in 1962 as a more affordable replacement to the outgoing Elite. Despite its lower production costs, the Elan continued Lotus reputation for sophisticated engineering design and quickly proved itself as one of the most rewarding sports cars of the 1960’s.
With its rigid steel backbone and lightweight fibreglass body, the Elan typified Colin Chapmans engineering obsession and would form the basis for every Lotus that followed over the next three decades.
The punchy twin-cam 1600, independent suspension and all round disc-brakes meant the Elan offered unrivalled levels of handling and performance and was leagues ahead of the competition at the time. The sleek and aerodynamic bodywork is still regarded as a design masterpiece and 60 years on from its introduction, the Elan remains a hugely capable and entertaining drivers car even by modern standards.
Finished in immaculate French Blue bodywork with Black interior, this beautifully restored Series 3 (Type 36) Coupe was purchased by the current owner following a total restoration completed in 2011. Invoices and photographic records for the restoration work provide evidence of the extent and quality of work undertaken. Complete with matching numbers, all structural mechanical elements including chassis, transmission and engine have received full restoration together with all cosmetic elements being brought back to as new condition
With additional invoices from respected Lotus specialists totalling a further £13, 500, this early Series 3 Coupe has been used sparingly over the past eight years and is ready to be driven and enjoyed by its next keeper.
