1998 Daimler Super V8 LWB.
This completely original Daimler Super V8 is finished in metallic black with parchment leather upholstery. Its practically unmarked inside and out.
Power output from the supercharged V8 was 375HP which meant that it came with the Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic W5A580 transmission because the Gneral Motors box couldn’t handle the extra torque. This means that the Super V8 drives immeasurably better than other XJs of the era.
The gearbox has had a full service (they say its sealed for life but its not!) with new MB transmission fluid and brand new contactor-plate and data socket. This is a weak point of the MB 5G-Tronic.
Mileage is a very low 39, 000 miles, - showing 64, 000km on the clock as the car spent its first 20 years in salt-free Japan in the careful hands of just one doting owner from new.
I purchased the car in 2022 having searched for months for the best available example with the intention of preparing a concourse-standard example.
In my care, its had a full service of everything, including a full service of the Mercedes
The alloy wheels are freshly refurbished, complete with brand-new chrome hubcaps.
Everything works as it should. I had the CD changer serviced and replaced the “bleeding” rear view mirror – both being common age-related faults on these cars.
There is not a spot of rust anywhere on the car. – the underside is as clean as the body. Its way too nice to use in wet weather.
I have too many vehicles and use a late XJ as my daily car so very reluctantly, I’ll let the Daimler go even though I’ll never find another one as nice.
