Description

1960 Triumph TR3a

I purchased this charming TR3a from a friend in 2020. It has been well cared for, living in a sheltered car port next to the house, and I have enjoyed owning and driving it for the last 5 years. It was originally built on 4th March 1960 in left hand drive for export to the USA where it was sold by Columbia Triumph Distributors in Baltimore, Maryland. The last registered owner in the US lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico where it appears to have spent most of its life. It was purchased in 1990 by Rust Free Classics from the legendary Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser who owns a yard on Route 66 in Albuquerque where it had been stored for about 15 years. It was returned to the UK where in about 1994 it underwent a restoration including conversion to right hand drive. Sensible upgrades were incorporated during the resto including rack and pinion steering from a later TR, a Stage 1 engine rebuild and a Kenlowe thermostatic fan. Further upgrades since have included later TR6 halogen headlights, Hi-Torque starter and a stainless steel exhaust system.

There is a good history file with the Triumph including recent invoices, lots of old MoT certificates, import documentation, production certificate from the Standard Register, a full Heritage Certificate and other detailed history.

Having added an enjoyable 3, 000 miles driving to shows in the UK and continental tours over the past 5 years the time has come to sell the Triumph. Since its restoration and registration in 1990 it has covered 31, 000 miles. It drives beautifully, with a four speed gearbox with Overdrive. If truth be told it probably drives a lot better than it did when new! Although not perfect, it is in tidy and useable condition. There are a few marks on the body, but no obvious corrosion. The paintwork is acceptable and has a good shine although there areas where the paint has faded over the years. The soft top, complete with drop-in side screens, fits remarkably well and there is also a zipped tonneau cover. It retains its original steel wheels with Triumph hubcaps, and there is a further set compete with tyres that will go with the car. There are also a few further spares.

It is offered in fully working and driveable condition ready for immediate enjoyment by its new owner. Lots of pictures and video available on request. Happy for viewings by arrangement.
