Description
1967 MG midget mkIII
Out of all MG Midgets, the mkIII pre-70s facelift retains the sixties look with chrome front grill and trim but benefits from the more powerful 1275cc engine. They also have the foldable roof (instead of pack away in the boot) and the wind-up windows making it a little easier to use on a regular basis.
65hp when new doesn’t sound a lot nowadays but the car only weighs about 700kg. As a result, it feels light and nimble which is helped by the very low sitting position. It is also known for its excellent handling.
I purchased SUL8F in 2019 in good condition but with little history and maintained and improved it ever since.
Today the car presents well and looks very conform to its original specs but is in not aesthetically perfect. It is an excellent driver, not a show car.
During my ownership the car has always been fuelled with unleaded 97 octane minimum and 5% ethanol maximum complemented with lead substitute additive. Driven on sunny days (except a few unplanned showers!) and once in 2022 as far as Le Mans Classic in France where it performed flawlessly.
I procured a heritage certificate from the British Motor Industry Trust in 2020 and was delighted to find out the car is an engine matching number and conform to its original factory specifications. Even the ignition key is the original one!
