We are very pleased to have been asked to market this vehicle on behalf of the owner, Victor Round. Mr Round is an active member of the Alvis Owners Club and past editor of the club magazine, The Bulletin. The vehicle has been a regular attendee at many club events and International Weekends.
651 LXW has been in Victor’s ownership since 2009 during which time it has been continuously and solely maintained by Fisher Restoration Ltd.
The vehicle retains its original engine and chassis number. First registered to John Blackwood of Beaulieu Lodge; delivered painted Glasso Grey with ‘modified rear wing’.
Sold and exported to Dr Gillette in New York in 1975, it returned to the UK in 1989. The vehicle was then restored and repainted in its present colour scheme and allocated registration number 651 LXW.
Since 2010 work has included: replaced wiring loom (mice!), fitting extra cooling fan, fitting an alternator, upgraded lights, new fuel tank, clutch, gearbox oil seals, new radiator, rear springs, new wheels, seat belts fitted, that are anchored to the chassis and a period radio with new internals. Also, has a working clock!
In 2013 a complete engine rebuild was undertaken by Fisher Restoration Ltd: rebore, crank regrind, new camshafts, pistons, valves, springs, cam followers, and a replacement cylinder head skimmed with the block. (It no longer overheats and has vaporized fuel just once – in dire conditions! Oil consumption since rebuild approximately 750 miles per pint).
The vehicle has been maintained for reliability, regardless of cost. The internal trim is in good condition and shows the wear you would expect for a 36-year-old restoration. The bodywork is sound and the paintwork polishes up well, although it was the next project the owner was going to undertake before his age dictated otherwise!
A history file, with supporting documents, comes with the vehicle.
Although exempt, the vehicle has been regularly MOT tested, the current one expires May 2026.
The seller is registered as a private individual. The vehicle is “Sold As Seen”, on an “As Is Where Is’ basis and without warranty. Photos and descriptions are solely for guidance purposes and it's customary and advisable to carry out a full inspection of the vehicle prior to purchase for your own peace of mind.
