1956 Standard 8, owned for 3 years, used regularly for pottering about in. When I bought it I fitted all new front wheel cylinders, front & rear shoes, ignition parts, a set of little-used radial tyres, plus new dynamo and regulator and other bits and bobs to make it reliable. Drives well enough for a car of this age, would best suit a rolling restoration.
It is cosmetically challenged with various bubbly bits, scuffs, aged paint and so on as the photos show, mainly to lower edges and the end of sills could do with welding at some point. Floors themselves, inner wings etc sound. Photos flatter the paint a bit but it does polish up quite well despite the many flaws in its paintwork.
Gearbox and clutch work fine, engine doesn't use any oil, the tappets are a bit tappy but never been a problem, it's a reliable little runabout.
Headlining is present but old, rear seat good, front seats good, both front door trims are off at present, one is usable, the other could do with re-making (vinyl over hardboard).
Think of it as a low-cost rolling resto that could be used and improved as you go along, and you won't go far wrong. You won't be worrying any concours judges but as a characterful and economical runaround (which is what I bought it for) it's a lot of fun and we've had it at many classic car events where it's usually the only small Standard there. Has its original registration number, V5C here in my name. Comes with original handbook and factory manual. Lots of advice and spares support available from the Standard Motor Club, many parts shared with the early Triumph Herald - a common upgrade is to fit the engine from a 1296cc Herald, or 1500 Spitfire with a few mods as they were both developments of the Standard 8 engine.
