Description
Up for sale is my MG MGA Mk2, tastefully upgraded to combine classic British motoring charm with a touch of modern reliability and performance.
The original engine has been swapped out in favour of the punchy 1800cc MGB unit, giving the car a strong pull and a livelier driving experience. Power brakes have also been added, vastly improving stopping performance and offering a more reassuring, modern feel behind the wheel.
The car starts without hesitation and runs flawlessly. It drives beautifully—smooth, responsive, and full of character. My boys love riding in it so much that every drive turns into a rollercoaster ride for them—arms in the air and big smiles all round.
The gearbox is tight and precise, with no whining or protesting, even when pushing on. I've taken the car on longer journeys too, including a 100-mile trip to my company's head office. It handled the highway cruise effortlessly. The first time I made that trip was a few years ago in October—without the side windows fitted—and that experience quickly convinced me to get the full weather gear!
Speaking of which, the car comes with all the required weather equipment: a vinyl soft top (no rips or tears), a tonneau cover, and removable side windows. All buttons, knobs, and switches are fully functional. I’ve also upgraded the front headlights, as the original Lucas units left a bit to be desired. The originals can be refitted if preferred, but with the 1800 engine already in place, this isn’t exactly a purist’s MGA.
Originally Wimbledon White, the car was resprayed in Chariot Red prior to my ownership. The paintwork does have some chips and blemishes here and there for which I am happy to provide close ups, but overall, it still looks fantastic—as you’ll see from the photos. For a 65-year-old classic, the body and undercarriage are in excellent condition.
As a registered historic vehicle, it's both MOT and tax exempt. That said, I still put it through a regular Vehicle Safety Check for peace of mind, and it has never flagged any concerns. I have a pit in the garage so checking the underneath is no problem at all.
This is a truly lovely example of the MGA—well-sorted, properly enjoyed, and ready for its next adventure.
Viewings welcome and I would be happy to take you out for a spin. Fabulous looking car handles great.
Have owned for a couple of years now and have enjoyed all my time with this car.
I mainly buy cars to enjoy for a few years then let them go to a new home but this one really is just a fantastic little car. Always makes me want to push on and has never let me down.
