1960 TVR Grantura Mk1 Project – BMC 1600 Engine – Barn Find
A barn find project that’ll make a wonderful car for somebody! This is a 1960 TVR Grantura Mk1 fitted with the 1600 BMC engine. First registered in January 1960, the car has been off the road since the 1970s. My parents bought it in 1976, and it’s been stored ever since, mostly in sheds and boxes, where it’s unfortunately sat untouched for decades.
It’s obviously a full restoration project where everything will need work. The chassis is rotten but still present so can be used as a template to fabricate a new one. The bodywork, chassis, and engine components are in rough shape, and I don’t really know what might be missing, so please study the photos closely. What you see is what you get.
That said, we do still have the front and rear windscreens intact, and we have the Vehicle Registration Document and the original registration book, which shows 5 owners. The car has real potential for someone with the time, money and skills to bring it back to life. These early TVRs are rare and don’t come up often.
We simply don’t have the ability to take this on, and we’d much rather see it restored and enjoyed than left to rot in the shed for another 20 years (though the shed probably won’t last that long!).
