Description

This MR2 is fitted with the more powerful 2zz-ge engine normally found in a Lotus Elise or Exige. The conversion was undertaken in 2022. Dimensionally the all alloy 2zz motor is almost identical to the stock 1zz, so it's a reasonably simple conversion and well understood. The advantage is 40 plus horsepower and an amazing exhaust note at high rpm!
It has been fitted with a fully programmable ECU Master "Black" and set up on a rolling road by a specialist expert on this engine. This upgrade has drastically improved the fuelling and also allows the point of "lift" to be altered. The stock Toyota ECU switches to the high lift cam profile at about 6200 rpm, whereas, now the engine goes into lift at 5600 rpm and stays there until the 8200 rev limit! This gives a much wider window "in lift" and therefore no risk of dropping out of lift between gear changes. Additionally, there is no limit to what can be changed in the engine map. The ECU also has the capacity for forced induction should a supercharged be fitted (as Lotus did on some models).
The engine also benifits from a EP Tuning baffled sump (see photo)
Lightened flywheel and Excedy competition clutch (not grabby!)
Gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature and volts. The photos show oil pressure at idle and at 3000 rpm with hot oil.
The exhaust headers are large bore into a big collector, large silencer and sports cat. The lambda sensor is a Bosch wideband (useful for tuning & any future forced induction) and would allow the fitment of an AFR gauge if required.
New coilpacks, solenoid & lift bolts fitted in 2024.
ECU Mater Data logger & cables
She made just over 170 bhp on the rollers (Estimated 190 - 200 at the crank) on regular unleaded.
The FL (Facelift) bodyshell is straight, no rot, no repairs or patches! The paintwork polishes up very well given she's 22 years old. There are some small dings and scuffs here and there, but nothing significant.
The rear subframe is rust free.
Half roll cage made from CDS tube(JP Cages) bolted to reinforced welded-in mountings. This fits snugly under the hood.
Barbarian complete chassis bracing kit (see photos).
Celica seats - More comfortable & supportive.
DRL lights in place of the original fog lights.
Team Dynamics Motorsport wheels (7x15f 7x16r) shod with Nankang NS2r tyres - These are street legal track days tyres and give phenomenal grip! They have only covered 100 miles or so.
Whiteline front & rear adjustable anti roll bars.
KYB dampers and stiffer lowered springs (fitted new 2023) Very impressive and I'm not sure coil-overs would be any better unless serious track or competition use was intended.
Superpro poly bushes throughout (fitted new 2023)
4 wheel alignment by a well known specialist.
New discs & calipers (new '23)
Braided brake hoses ('new '23)
PBS front & rear pads (new '24)
Front wheel bearing/ hub assemblies (new '24)
New fluids at 90, 000 miles Millers Nanodrive CFS oil etc.
A good pile of invoices to back up what parts have been fitted & when.

P1 4 TRD (Toyota Racing Developments) Number Plate included in sale. Since this car was upgraded from a 1zz to a 2zz every owner has made improvements! It is now a very well sorted "pocket rocket".
I have a good record of the cars' history which I will pass on to the new owner.
