A VERY NICE SERIES 3 LIGHTWEIGHT AIR PORTABLE LAND ROVER .
This model of land Rover was designed for the British Army for transporting by air either in the fusilage of an aircraft or by parachute .
The design would allow for the removal of the doors , bulkhead top panel, the top rear body side panels and the top half of the tailgate . By doing this the land rover could be lightened and the body was slightly narriower than standard land Rover's to allow 2 vehicles to be loaded next to each other in the aircraft.
The "Lightweight" as it was nicknamed went on to become the main shortwheelbase Land Rover used by the British army as well as being used by other armies .
Two versions were made, a 24 volt version for use as a radio vehicle and a 12 volt version to be used as a more general purpose vehicle.
This one has the more sought after 12 volt electrical system which means that spare parts are easier to get hold of as most parts are similar to civilian versions.
As you can see from the pictures this has excelent body panels without damage and has one prizes at classic shows . It drives like a new one and the chassis and bulkhead are excellent .
There is a bench seat in the rear and it also comes with some webbing , a R209 radio set as well as a mine detector kit .
We used to buy a lot of these lightweights back in the 1970's so do have an extensive knowledge on them .
