Description
For sale is my 1988 Mercedes W124 300TE auto for sale - 160k mileage.
I bought the car with not much history as I had the intention of restoring it and tastefully modifiying/ modernising and keeping it, however the purchase of a dream project car forces the sale.
Because there was limited history, plenty of work has been done so far to establish a good baseline for the car.
- Rear bay windows removed, and any rot cut out, with the frames repaired with new metal. This is a common problem on all 124 estates and causes water to come into the interior. This was professionally done at a bodyshop.
- New fuel injectors and injector seals
- New throttle microswitch
- New Bosch distributor cap & rotor arm
- New bosch throttle position sensor/ potentiometer, expensive!
- Beru ignition leads
- NGK 6EFS copper core plugs, proper spark plugs for the M103 engine
- Valve stem seals replaced
- Valve cover gasket replaced
- New battery
- New x2 bosch fuel pumps, & fuel filter
- In tank fuel strainer replaced - genuine mercedes part.
- Rubber 90 deg fuel hose replaced on the outlet of the fuel tank
- Oil changed every 5k
- New air filter
- New OVP relay (expensive)
- Various vacuum pipes replaced including the idle control valve ones
- Underside of K jet rubber below replaced with new soft rubber one (these are common to going hard and cracking cause vac leaks)
- SLS works well, previous owner renewed the SLS system with a new accumulator, good second hand struts, new hydraulic hoses, and fresh fluid.
- Previous owner has rebuilt calipers, handbrake shoes and put new brake hard lines on.
- Rear springs changed for 30mm lowering springs, rides good and not harsh.
- Mercedes Eltanin wheels from a CL 500
Paint work is in decent condition for a 37 year old car, it polishes up well, but there are some marks and scratches, and a small bit of lacquer peal on the roof.
At some point in it's life, one of the previous owners has put a facelift bonnet on it.
It has a sun roof but it's sealed shut - This was low priority so I haven't had time to rip out the sealant and put a proper gasket in place. I haven't tried to open it properly, but a quick flick of the switch and it did move and the motor engaged.
Interior is in reasonable condition, side bolster on drivers seat has some wear but isn't bad. It has a aftermarket continental (OEM looking) bluetooth radio, however the aerial jack is broken so there is no FM signal - fine for me as I could just connect via bluetooth.
On the odd rare occasion it has randomly stalled when coming to a stop.
Since setting the k jet pressure to the right spec it hasn’t stalled since, and car is used daily for 20mile round trip. If I were to keep the car, I'd probably get the K-Jetronic system rebuilt to make sure it’s all sorted for future worry free driving.
Overall, a really nice 300te estate, it's not perfect or pristine, but a really good solid foundation with plenty of the hard and expensive work done!! Mainly there cosmetic issues to sort, and on going maintenance associated with a car with 37 years of age.
Open to serious offers, but will not respond to low ball offers. These are fairly rare cars now, especially in this condition, and with this amount of work done. Top condition mint ones are £10k +.
Sold as seen, no returns or warranty, I'm not a car dealer - this is a private sale.
