Description
1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III with a one-off saloon body by Franay.
After more than 45 years of hibernation the car was taken from its underground parking spot in New Jersey back in 2018.
The Rolls-Royce has been carefully brought back to life trying to maintain as much as possible of it's unique patina.
Our goal was to get it running reliable again and not to (over)restore it.
A huge amount of time and effort have been put into it, of which a substantial photographic file is available.
Among the work done to the car:
Complete rewiring in correct material
Radiator rebuilt
Water pump rebuilt
Brakes rebuilt
New exhaust system
New tyres
Alternator rebuilt
Starter motor rebuilt
Carburettor rebuilt
EtceteraThis Phantom III has a unique history
The Franay body is one of two bodies made for the Phantom III chassis, one a Sedanca de Ville and one Saloon, this car
The body was presented at the 1937 Paris Salon d'Automobiles after which it was sold to French lady living in Paris.
After the war, as with many Phantom III 's, the car was sold to the US.
At one time in the 1950's it was owned by moviestar John Paxton, a photograph of him and the car is on file.
Some time during the 1970's the car was bought by a gentleman who had plans to restore it, but also this never happened and it was stored in an underground parking in New Jersey where it was uncovered only in 2018.
I bought the Phantom there and had it shipped to Holland.
It is now running again, road registered in Holland.
It has successfully completed a tour to England for the RREC Annual Rally and recently we went to Spa Francorchamps, both times trouble free.
