Land Rover lightweight series 3
Immaculate vehicle which has had a full
nut and bolt restoration completed by myself a retired mechanic with 40 years experience working on these landys.
I bought it from a friend who has owned it since it left the army hence only one previous owner!
It had never been messed with so arrived in original spec and very straight panels but needing a full rebuild. Chassis has been replaced with a new marsland galvanised item the best on the market in my view and the only chassis builders with Land Rover factory approval. Chassis was t-washed primed with two pack primer and finished with three coats of enamel black. The perfect base to start. Axles have been completely stripped, and rebuilt with new bearings, oil seals, brakes etc and painted as per chassis.
Engine has undergone a full rebuild involving Rebore +20 thou , crank regrind +10 thou mains and big ends . Cylinder head skimmed , hardend valve seats fitted for unleaded fuel use. New valves and springs fitted and pressure tested. All new timing gear, new camshaft and followers fitted. All reassembled with elring composite head gasket new corteco oil seals new genuine hepolite pistons etc Compression checked when completed showing 169psi Runs like a Swiss watch as you would expect .
Gearbox also rebuilt - fitted new 1st and 2nd gears along with new syncro units, bearings seals etc Box runs perfectly with no slop or jumping out on overun .
All new suspension with jones (british made) springs and girling shocks. Two new fuel tanks fitted.
All new cupro nickel brake lines fitted with new master cylinder and servo.
All body panels refurbished with all corrosion cut out and new aluminium TIG welded in place. Full bare metal respray with two pack primer and topped of with three coats nato green
No expense has been spared on this vehicle and over 1000 hrs has gone into her, she is truly exceptional and must be amongst the very best anywhere. Everything works as it should, drives absolutely spot on if you are in the market for a lightweight of this calibre I think you would struggle to find a better one.
