Beschreibung
1980 Land Rover Series 3 Lightweight 24V FFR. This is a very original, unrestored vehicle with only 41500 miles on the clock. I am the 2nd owner since it left military service and registered on the road in 1992.
The previous owner drove it until c2001 and dry stored it until i recovered it in April 2024 making it a bit of a barn find. Since then it has been dry stored and given a very sympathetic recommission to get it back on the road keeping it as original as possible making it quite special as unmodified lightweights are getting rarer all the time.
Recommissioning work includes;
- New brake cylinders
- New brake master cylinder and servo
- New brake pipes and flexi hoses
- New shock absorbers + bushes
- NOS driving members fitted to both front hubs
- New radiator
- NOS 24V distributer + HT leads
- NOS carburetor
- NOS spark plugs
- New Drivers side fuel tank
- New ignition barrel
- Engine + filter, gearbox, transfer box and both diff oils renewed.
- 2 New batteries
- Tappet clearances adjusted to manufacturer specs
- Wheels repainted Land rover green.
I have retained the original parts removed from the vehicle and can be included in the sale should the new owner want them.
Also included in the sale are 2 NOS Michelin tyres still in the wrapping, Aerial boxes, antennas, radio cables and headset, a folder with history and old tax discs, map reading/ service lamp that plugs into the dashboard socket and NATO towing hitch (currently not fitted). I have other parts and accessories for the vehicle that can be negotiated into the sale also. e. g. Military tents, service parts etc.
Bodywork is original and untouched as well as paint to keep original patina. Doors, rear tub and wings are solid. There is a rust hole in the passenger side footwell it would be an easy fix but i left it alone as i wanted to retain originality, the rest of the bulkhead is solid. Canvas is original and in decent condition but has a crack in the plastic rear window on the top left.
Chassis is original and solid, no welding work required.
Interior is in good condition with original seats, fire extinguisher and rifle mounts fitted, rear tub doesn't show signs of heavy use, bench seats fitted and ammo boxes fitted as storage.
Engine and mechanicals are good, starts, drives, selects gears and stops as it should no concerning noises from axles or gearboxes. The exhaust gasket between the manifold and down pipe has a blow which is an easy fix but not had the time to fix.
Military history;
- Started service in 115th Provost Company 1st Regiment Royal Military Police in Germany.
- 1987 - 174th Provost Company Royal Military Police
- 1990 - OSU Thetford
MOT and Tax exempt and ULEZ compliant.
This is a very honest and authentic vehicle that has attracted plenty of attention when I've taken it to shows. I am unfortunately selling as I simply need the space.
Thank you for taking the time to look and I welcome any questions. viewing can be arranged near Bo'ness.
