Description
First Registered in 1991 in Cape Town South Africa. This Ford Bantam "Bakkie" pickup is ultra rare in the UK where our equivalent was the Escort Van. As a result this little pickup turns heads wherever it goes.
My wife and I had it imported 2 years ago by a company who specialise in sourcing rare and desirable vehicles from South Africa. All tax and duty has been paid, the NOVA declaration has been done, the vehicle is fully road worthy and a fresh MOT was just put on it this June. The van is clean for its age with no structural rust.
We have done the hard work of getting it imported, registered and MOT'd. All you need to do is pick up the keys and drive it away. This vehicle is a super rare head turner in full working order.
Manufactured by SAMCOR in South Africa in 1990 the Bantam 1600 leisure comes with the classic Ford 1600 engine and shares its styling and build with the same era Escorts and Fiestas. This quirky little Ford is one of only a tiny handful of genuine factory built Ford Escort pickups on the road in the UK.
The van is very capable of hauling decent loads and could be used for its intended purpose (as it has been sparingly used during its life). Or you could take the time to restore it to showroom condition and have a very unique show car. The choice is yours.
The Bantam is located in South Bristol and is in semi regular use so you're welcome to get in touch for a viewing. There are barely any of these in this country and almost none that are actually on the road, in use and ready to go!
