Description
This impressive Ford Sierra RS Cosworth has come to us from a local customer, a long standing Fast Ford enthusiast and collector. Finished in of the most iconic colours, Moonstone Blue, the Sierra RS was one of the most complete performance packages of its era and today continue to have a huge following. Built specifically to win Group A touring car racing, the model dominated and the model was essentially a Homologation special with little over 5000 road cars built. With the legendry Cosworth turbo engine with huge tuning potential, serious performance and raw driving experience, the RS Cosworth is a true icon that has had a major cultural impact in the UK.
This example bears just 39760 miles on the odometer and has true presence with an outstanding bodyshell and gleaming Moonstone Blue paint finish. We are told that due to corrosion issues, a new shell was sourced and purchased in the early 2000's and the underside of the car is quite simply magnificent. The floor pans and general underside is quite simply show class with a stunning finish and there is no corrosion evident within the bodyshell. More recently, the engine has been stripped down and completely rebuilt using the later Cosworth YB 200 engine block. These later blocks were stronger and more durable with thicker cylinder walls with therefore better resistance to cracking and bore distortion. A photo record of the engine work is with the car, and less than 1000 miles have been covered since.
This is a seriously quick car, the engine is incredibly fit, healthy and offers exhilarating performance. On the road the engine pulls incredibly well, the turbo pulls strongly through the rev range, the boost comes in cleanly with no hesitation with strong consistent pressure and the car pulls hard under boost, its certainly delivers the expected strong mid range punch expected of the Cosworth engine.
D21 RSR has covered just 4000 miles over the past twenty years and less than 1000 miles since the engine rebuild. A host of invoices accompany the car for various new parts but its clear serious money has gone into the bodyshell and engine. The interior remains very much an honest, original 1980's Fast Ford trim and having had no use over the past year, it will be sold with a full 12 months MOT and freshly serviced.
