Description
The Mercedes-Benz 230 SL, also known as the “Pagoda” due to its unique detachable hardtop, was a two-seater roadster produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1963 to 1967. It was designed as a successor to the 300 SL and 190 SL models, known for their exceptional comfort, performance, handling and safety. The 230 SL featured a 2. 3 litre inline six-cylinder engine and was offered with both manual and automatic transmission options.
I am reducing my collection of classic Mercedes and I am delighted to offer this lovely 1965 example finished in White with contrasting Blue Hood, and Blue Leather Interior. The car has undergone a sympathetic restoration which has included items such as fresh paintwork and new white wall tyres. Recently the car has had a new soft top in blue. The anti roll bar bushes have recently been replaced as well as a recent exhaust and mounts. A service, fluid change and brand new OE hubcaps at great expense (£800). The history file on the vehicle is thorough and extensive. The car was originally registered in Jersey and came to the UK in 1981. It was owned by the same gentleman in Poole Dorset from 1993, (original bill of sale included) and moving forward I have every bill and receipt from his custodianship. This includes MOT’s from 2005 to date.
The history file includes Jackson and Caffyns Mercedes main agent service bills from 1993 until 2001 for any works carried out to the vehicle.
In 2002 P&S Autos of Dorset undertook to replace the floor while replace the inner and outer wings, while given the car a complete underseal. The bill for this works was £5, 000 at the time, equating to over £10, 000 in todays money. The car is completely solid now with no visible corrosion whatsoever in the boot or floor wells and has also been rust treated. The car was subject to an early restoration with new floors and then stored indoors.
The service and maintenance mantel was then passed to Coleshill Garage in Wimbourne who have carried out all works on the vehicle until July 2024, where a full service including spark plugs was carried out. The history file contains full bills and receipts for this period totally circa 70-80 receipts to show what a comprehensive maintenance record this vehicle holds.
Recently the car has had a full fluid change, new anti roll bar bushes.
The car starts beatifully from cold and runs well in even in the hottest summer, this year.
I have priced the car extremely competitively after previously having left it with a dealer on sale or return. As you should be aware, the right hand drive examples are far more desirable than the left hand drive cars due to the fact they made a significant amount less.
