Description

A reliable & regular long distance tourer for the past 12 years. Unlike many, "Little Ethel" has not sat unused. For sale as my knackered knees require an automatic for the many continental journeys we do. Open to sensible offers.

Hooper Sports saloon design 6684 was built for Rolls-Royce themselves for the 1937 Geneva Motor Show. She was originally delivered to Geneva on a French chassis plate and is marked up in metric and imperial.

Her first private owner led development of the UK Aluminium industry. Her third owner was the surgeon on the Royal Yacht Britannia and an Antarctic explorer, known to the Queen as “Our David”. A more recent owner was a director of the VSCC and the Twenty Ghost Club and added overdrive and an oil filter making our regular & reliable travels to France and Italy easy. Lausanne or Montreux to our local pub in Kent is over 550 miles but Ethel does it in one day at 100kph .

Having previously owned Phantoms and post war cars, the 25/ 30 has the fabulous presence and individuality of a pre war car, yet the practicality to drive anywhere, any day.

"Little Ethel" has had no expense spared and we have invested £43k and kept her mechanically tip top in our custodianship since 2013. £25k was invested before that since 2004. All work done as required at specialists eg Sergeants, Fiennes and Ghost Motors. Judging by the copies of the bills for engine overhauls in the 50s, 60s and later, each owner has had a similar “rightly done” mentality. Sadly my knees have not aged as well as Little Ethel, so a change has to be made. I have 1) an extensive listing of all the maintenance receipts we have dating back through the history and past decades, 2) a history of the car and its owners, 3) a photographic history of our ownership and European trips. Just message and I'll send you copies accordingly. You can also see videos on the RREC facebook site. A very reliable car with a special history, for everyday running and longer distance touring.
