Description
FOR SALE: 1989 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2. 5-16 Evolution I with 166 334km.
This is the very rare EVO 1 version of the W201, originally ordered in Kassel, Germany and imported to South Africa soon thereafter. The VIN CODE confirms its provenance, starting with WDB201036, the prefix for the Evolution I model, built between March and May of 1989.
Mercedes-Benz produced 502 cars in order to homologate the racing version for the DTM (German Touring Car Championship). All the cars were finished in BLUE-BLACK - METALLIC PAINT (CODE 199U) and this one were fitted with the optional ANTHRACITE LEATHER (CODE 271). The paint is in perfect condition while the leather seats are in near-perfect condition.
In fact, the entire car is outstanding condition since it has been dry stored, away from both moisture and UV rays as part of the owner’s extensive private museum which includes a fully equipped Mercedes-Benz workshop.
In addition to the standard factory fitted performance enhancements of the Evolution I model, which includes the Type M 102 991 inline four cylinder engine, five-speed manual Getrag dog-leg gearbox, a shorter rear axle ratio (to give quicker acceleration) and a sports exhaust (in order to rev higher), the Evolution I model also has some eye-catching aerodynamic features: a deep front spoiler with a chin splitter (unscratched); a rear spoiler with an adjustable central plane, two inboard pylons and stabilising endplates; wheelarch extensions making room for the bigger wheels and deep side skirts making the car appear lower than it actually is.
Many believe the EVO 1’s aero to be far more attractive than the EVO 2’s over-the-top wings and arches although the current owner preferred the EVO 2 wheels, which are currently fitted. The originals will be supplied with the vehicle. Also note that the ‘EVOLUTION’ side decals are from the EVO 2 and can be easily removed.
This particular car has the following options fitted:
anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, electric windows, an electric sunroof with tilting device, tinted glass, an outside temperature gauge, rear headrests, central locking and a factory fitted fire extinguisher.
In addition to the standard equipment, an audiophile sound system was professionally fitted in period and consists of various components by Rockford Fosgate.
This car represents a significant investment opportunity and worldwide shipping can be arranged.
