Description

NRC 866 is a 1959 Austin A55 Cambridge Mk1 4 door saloon. First registered 4th February 1959. In 66 years it has had only 4 owners and covered only 66370 miles. The 1st owner had the car for 21 years, the 2nd for 30 years, the 3rd for 3 years and the 4th and last for 12 years, In that time the car has covered only 66370 miles. The history file has a 4 page colour magazine article about the car and how the 2nd owner purchased the car with 40, 000 miles on it in 1980 and how he spent the next 23 years restoring it. Bodily everything was done to the car and the full restoration is given in detail. Mechanically it had a full engine rebuild with an unleaded cylinder head, shock absorbers, wiper motor, wiring loom, dynamo, starter motor, stainless steel exhaust, brake master cylinder, electronic ignition and much more. There are also lots of old invoices, old V5's, MOT's from 2004 onwards and an original workshop manual. The car was resprayed in its original Grey. and the car now has that old original Patina look. There are a few minor blemishes but no rust and it is perfectly capable of holding its own on the show circuit. I was at a show with the car last week and had lots of compliments (the car not me!). All the chrome items like the bumpers, wing mirrors, headlight cowls, side trims, door handles, window surrounds, bonnet mascot & plinth and the hub caps are in very good condition. It sits on a good set of 165/ 80R/ 13 tyres and it has a locking petrol cap. The boot area is clean and houses the spare wheel and original tools. The engine bay is tidy and houses the 1489 cc 'B' series engine and a four speed gearbox with central floor change gear stick. The interior is all red. Seats, door cards and carpets. Not like new but not bad at all. There is a period Philips Radio in the dash but it is just a hole filler and would need to be wired in. The car is exempt from both Road Tax and MOT's and with classic car insurance being very low it is cheap classic car ownership. The car is not fast but but drives along as it should and it is a wonderful old car.
