Description
After much success with their AJS 7R, AMC decided to switch things up, in 1954, with a new and more powerful motorcycle.
On paper, the G45 was a glorious proposition, using a slightly modified AJS 7R rolling chassis, but with a more powerful 498cc twin cylinder engine.
From 1951-1957, just 80 of these machines were built and it is thought that only half of that number survive to this day.
The power plant is a 498cc parallel twin cylinder, with pushrod activated overhead valves.
Bore and stroke 66mm x 72. 8mm
Carbs. Twin Amal 9300
Mag. Lucas Competition
Gearbox. 4 speed
HP 50hp giving a top speed of 130mph
Built in 1956 using an original frame, number 132, this bike was raced for many years using a 350cc Gold Star engine.
The previous owner, a well known bike racer and engineer, having failed to locate an original engine, decided to recreate a new G45 engine.
Modified Matchless G9 crankcases were sourced from Team Obsolete in the USA and after a considerable period of time and hard work, a complete G5 engine was completed.
The bike is in great overall condition and was tested extensively on completion, before it entered the owners collection which was dry stored in a museum room within the owners house.
The bike was purchased from the previous owner's estate along with 4 other race bikes.
The bike has not been started since purchase and will require a light recommission. A great opportunity to own one of the most desirable and sought after race bikes .
